wrong country no data

Hey there all, I just purchased a new HTC desire hd from an eBay seller.
This morning I received the phone and upon start up it seems that this phone was intended for retail in Saudi arabia, and even the English selections on set up were "English Egypt" or "English Arabian emerates". Then I found that I couldnt receive any data, i could only access the internet through WiFi. I don't know if the 2 issues ate related it how I may fix this. Would rooting the phone solve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Regards Chris

Hello, welcome to the forums :)

Yeah, it would because you could stick the Stock HTC ROM on there. Regarding your data, you probably need to set your APN's up. What network are you on and I'll see if I can dig them out for you.

Did the ebay auction state it was an Arabic handset?

Thanks, that was starting to stress me out. My network is 3 Australia. Cheers for the help. Also any direction as to how I root my phone would be amazing :)

No probs!

This post details everything you need to do to root your handset.

Try these APN settings, see if they they work. I can't confirm, just got them after a quick google.

You'll need to go into Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names.
