WTF!?!? Ads

I know ads support this site and understand this.
But for the love of GOD the best buy ad?
Does it have to pop up every single time you change threads or forums?
This thing has gone crazy like the Radio Shack ad was.

Does the Verizon LTE full screen ad have to pop up (almost) every time you try to post something?

I can understand why people install ad blockers and filters, because this is getting obnoxious now!
Can you guys do something about it and KEEP it done? :(

So today i kept seeing this huge add on the bottom of my screen on this forum what the hell it takes up a third of my screen.
Anyone else annoyed by this?

Is anyone else seeing the really annoying and obtrusive Best Buy Ad on the bottom of their screen that comes back with every click of a link here? Anyway to get rid of it once and for all?

Are you accessing the site from your PC or your Phone browser? I haven't noticed any on my laptop.

Im on my pc and its this Bestbuy ad it just pops up randomly on the forum.
I dont know if this is some new advertisement but its being a pita and should be removed as it blocks parts of the forum :(.

Oh that's odd, I have the add banner in to the top portion of the screen but never seen one anywhere else and it doesn't cut anything out of the screen.

Is Bestbuy a U.S. company? Maybe that's why I don't get it in the UK?

Yes their in the US but i think they might also sell to other country's don't know for sure but their a large electronics based company.
And heres a pic of it.

You could try a pop up blocker? What browser are you running, Chrome is a bit crap for blocking pop ups but you can get a add on, Firefox is pretty good at blocking pop ups.

r u sure this site is to blame??

maybe you have some adware on your pc?

No, this ad is being reported by more than one user.. and it is not the first time this type of pop-up at the bottom of the screen has been an issue (it was Radio Shack last time).

Fwiw, the site admin has been trying to get the agency that causes them to stop, as he does not want members intruded upon by ads, and has said so more than once.

just had it happen on my Dell mini 10v. Takes up freakin too much of my screen I can barely view the topics! I clicked a new link to another thread and now its gone.

I just got it too. I am a moderator for a site owned by the people who code VB. The owners here can claim ignorance if they want. It's clearly intentional.

Who do you think is putting them there if it isn't the person responsible for the site?

As a moderator at a site owned by people who code VB yourself, I'm sure you're aware that site owners sell ad space to agencies. Those agencies then begin ad campaigns which often need to be tailored for content, frequency, style of banners, etc.

It's an ongoing process, and one subject to input from site admins, users and the owner himself. During that ongoing process, users will likely see styles and content of ads which they object to; those objections are some of the input the site owner brings to the agencies involved, usually causing improvement as time goes by.

Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know.

Yep, it's the agency that vets the adverts, not Rob. And last time there was an intrusive ad, Rob contacted the agency he uses, yelled at them and the ad got taken down.

I'm not sure what else you're expecting him to have done.

yes when dealing with ad networks such as the ones here, there is no telling from day to day what ad they want to deal you. best you can do is, as rob does, tell them to take it out of rotation.

No no guys, he's right. We like to piss off our user base then claim ignorance. Good for business, ya know?

:\

Yes, as stated above. We deal with what is dealt to us on a case by case basis. There really is no other reasonable way to do it, unfortunately. Besides dropping the ad network, but we don't want to do that.

I don't like intrusive ads, and neither does Rob. We do fight against them, believe it or not. But honestly, nearly everywhere I go I'm slammed by ads far worse than these. Like those giant ones that come down from the top of the screen and cover everything or push everything down, for example. I can't even read the news without finding myself upset with ad overload.

All in all, we do pretty good and DO fight to improve.
