Help wtf non stop beeping

sometime when my phone receives an incoming email from gmail it does this thing where it starts beeping like an alarm clock. WTF is that and how do i kill it? Anyone else have this problem?

I had the same thing happen twice, for text messages. Both times it happened, was when I had turned my phone on, and there was a missed text message. Kind of weird.
