Root Wtf!

O'k so I'm trying to put in Bouchigo's mods for the blue battery and such. The first time I put them in I boot looped. At first I THOUGHT it was because I had frozen apps but this appears to not be the case.

I flashed these mods again, my phone booted up fine but it FC the crap out of me on everything. I have flashed all the GB leaks as they came out. Got the .571 then .588, then went to the .591, now I'm on the .595.

Everything is fine with the phone. No glitches, smooth operation. But I can't figure for the life of me why my phone does not want these mods. The only thing I can think of now is I'm running ADW with a theme. Bouchigo would this cause it? I have verified I am deodexed and obviously I'm rooted or else none of my apps that require root would work.

how are you applying the mods?
through recovery choosing "apply zip file" and choosing the zips of the mods?

also for future reference you can go straight from .588 to .595 , there is no need to involve .591

Yeah, pretty much. I load up CWR, choose "install zip file", navigate to the zip and go to install it. It flashed just fine.

The first time I tried flashing the mods no. I haven't changed anything since I flashed the .595. This time, yes. I had to restore a backup last night because of the boot looping and again today because of the FC.

EDIT: The backup I made was through CWR so it was pretty much an image of the phone before I tried flashing the mods. So it pretty much put everything back to how it was before i ever tried flashing the mods.

EDIT 2: Thank god I had the common sense to make that backup.....lol

The first time you had issues could have very well been some apps you renamed/froze causing issues, but I have found that backups cause issues on .595 too. I don't remember if I verified this same issue on .591, but I think I did.

Anyway, to prove it I did this:

1. I wiped my phone and reinstalled .595.

2. I installed D2 bootstrapper and immediately made a backup.

3. I then applied the mod for 270 rotation, blue bat, and CRT and it loaded up to the OS just fine with no issues.

4. I restored the backup I made in step 2 and it loaded up just fine to the OS with no issues.

5. I applied the same mod as in step 3 and my phone got stuck in a bootloop.

6. I didn't wipe anything or start over, I just simply went back into CWR and applied the deodex zip file I made for .595 and this time it booted up just fine to the OS.

7. I applied the mod in step 3 again, and it worked.

I think the issue has something to do with the same problems ApeX (and I'm pretty sure any other Rom, even stock backup) has when restoring, requiring deodexing, or you will experience many issues like bootloop, FC, and missing options, etc.

Here (From Fabolous' ApeX thread):
-Nothing is broken functionality-wise if you don't flash part 2, but you will find many apps that aren't themed. This is done on purpose, because flashing the themed version on the initial boot causes major problems. Blame Motorola.

I'm guessing you are running your freshly restored back up now, right? Try this, try it even if you aren't running a restored backup.

Apply this in CWR, and then reboot back into the OS:
GB_2.3.3_4.5.595_Deodexed.zip

MD5Sum: 97dd3f0b5e5301ad10a24d54d0b67bae

After you have applied the deodexed zip I made, apply the blue battery mod you are trying to apply, reboot, and it should work......I just did all this and it worked ;)

Yes I'm running the fresh backup as we speak. I will go ahead and flash that file and then the mods. Can I flash this file and the mods right after then reboot or do i have to do one at a time rebooting between?

No, that's why I told you to do the deodex first, reboot, then go back for the mod.......at least I think I told you

EDIT:
Yes I did tell you ;)

EDIT 2:
After applying the deodex it will take a bit to boot up, be patient.

I'm just being sure I understood what you were saying first. i'm gonna give this a go, wish me luck. Or just laugh at me uncontrollably....whatever makes you happy......:D

Lmao.....O'k, i'll let ya....:D

That worked like a charm Bouchigo. Thanks for the help. I love running into these problem. Don't get me wrong, they're a PITA, but it also allows me to learn one more thing.
