X Won't charge with Motorola cables

A few days ago, I noticed that my phone wasn't charging unless I plugged the charger in a certain way and set the phone down. I figured the internal plug was loose and I would need to get the phone replaced. Last night, I thought I had the phone charging, but in the middle of the night it beeped and died. I couldn't get it to charge on the stock Motorola charger anymore. If plugged in, it would load up the charging battery icon for about 5-10 secs, then shut down. The phone would become unresponsive at that point unless I removed the battery. No boot logo. Nothing.

I have a Motorola car charger and on the way to work this AM I tried to give it a charge. No matter how much I messed with it, the same results as the stock charger.

At work, I have an older Motorola charger from a different phone. Same results. At this point I am thinking, the port on the phone is a goner or my battery is a goner. I am hoping it's not the phone, although it should be under warranty.

At work, I also have a Blackberry USB cable that I have used for flashing different ROMS. I figure 'what the hell', and try that cable connected to the PC. It works fine, phone immediately boots up. Even moving the cable around in the port it doesn't disconnect. I switch the connection from my computer to the wall using the Motorola plug and Blackberry cable. It still works. My boss has an HTC incredible and gives me his wall charger to try. It works, but it's back to being finicky again.

I think I am going to have to go out to Verizon today and have the phone replaced. I had finally gotten everything I wanted on it set up perfectly. I guess I can Nandroid and back up the SDCard before I SBF and send it on it's way.

I just hope Verizon doesn't try and give me shit on the trade in. The battery's little water paper warning thing ripped and is messed up, but I haven't ever gotten it wet.

I had this same problem with my droid x. I went to FYE and bought a new USB cable for the wall charger adapter and everything is working fine. My battery is back to the way it was when i first bought it.

If the charge cycle goes on and off while you wiggle the cord at the phone, the port is likely worn and a new phone is in order.
