Help X10 2.1 Update - Issues/Problems

I have noticed this as well. The quickest way to close the browser is to go menu/windows and then X the window(s) and then back key. This is exit. The home key puts the browser into background. I have been told it will not use resources in the background.

It is an odd change.
 
Upgraded to 2.1.Works great the only thing i find wrong is that my phone wont charge when i connect it to the PC via the micro-usb cable. Anybody encountering this as well?

I have encountered but I only noticed this happen when I DON'T select Charge your phone on the menu that pops up when I plug in the USB cable. After I select Charge phone, I can then select to mount the SD card if I want. Hope this helps!

But it does allow you to clear out all the messages currently in the phone memory.

I was having problems with both stock and handcent being a bit slow but once I backed up 3000plus messages to sd and then cleared all from the phone it's back to being fast again. So it might be worth a try. You can also name the back ups differently so that you don't have the worry of overwriting existing copies.

:D Er, cos I was toooo damn lazy to get rid of them!? I was actually running a scientific experiment for the benefit of the users of the forums to see how many I could store before I killed my phone (and if you believe that your'll believe anything!!)

I text lots, and lots, and lots. In fact my phone shouldn't be termed a phone but a texting implement. 3000 was only a few threads that I specifically left running so I could scan back through to see when certain people had said certain things. What would have been great is for someone to invent delete texts between xx/xx/2010 and yy/yy/2010 so I could have seriously trimmed down the threads and only kept the important bits.

I am being a lot more organised with it now... honest!:D:D

Did that and still nothing. Might it be a problem with the drivers or something???

I have the same problem with the contacts which picture is that of Facebook, for the contacts I uploaded the picture manually its alright. The thing is that I dont wanna upload the pictures for every single contact manually.

Asides from that, the phone runs silky smooth.

It could be. You could try reinstalling them or using a different USB port? The other option is to just use the wall charger to charge your phone instead of your computer. It takes longer to charge it on the computer vs on the wall, how long are you waiting before checking for a difference in the battery level?

After the upgrade, it was plugged for about an hour on my computer. The battery read alot less charge. I later connect it to a friends computer and after about 15 minutes it read even less. Luckily I was able to get home and use the wall charger, kind a wierd though....

Yeah, that is weird. When I experienced this, the charge just remained at the same level. Definitely a problem if you're losing charge.
 
Why am I nervous to update to 2.1? because I suck at phones and it took me two months to get it looking nice and have all the cool apps i have on it and I dont want to lose everything by doing it wrong haha.. I backed up my contacts to my sd card im pretty sure but I dont want to lose my apps mostly. text messages dont matter really.

how do you back up your apps?? i forget what thread it was in that said how to do it. sorry.
 
I've got a wierd issue... the top of my screen has a half second delay more than the rest of the screen... while playing games or watching movies it's really annoying....

Then don't. But I can honestly say that 2.1 feels much better than 1.6. More like a polished phone device.

The Backup and Restore app does backup links to the market for your apps. It will re-download them when you're done flashing. It takes a while and I forgot to turn on wifi before starting. The only thing it can't download is apps that were only for 1.6 and don't show up for 2.1. It also won't backup anything that was sideloaded (installed from an unknown source).

Or you can download it directly from their website. Just point your X10's browser to m.sonyericsson.com/backup (I think that's the link, it's something along those lines). From there, just follow the instructions for installing and using it. This is what I did and it worked fine. Though I had to back up my contacts through the "Backup to SD" function in the Contacts menu as trying to back them up using the app resulted in the app not working. Hope this helps!

I just mentioned this in case they wanted to do this BEFORE initiating the upgrade process. I know that when I went to do a backup while going through the upgrade process, it made me restart the whole upgrade process after the backup (had to reboot phone, hold back button, etc.).

I just tried it and it worked just fine for me. You went to that link on your X10's browser right?

It could be that your carrier is blocking it (but since we're both likely on Rogers that's unlikely) or that it can't be downloaded because it is a third-party app and not from the Market. You can allow this by going to Settings>Applications and place a checkmark next to Unknown Sources and this will allow you to download and install non-Market apps. There are a few threads showing up saying that the page is down and people post some solutions to them but I think it is probably the other problem I mention since I can access it just fine. Anyone else have problems with the texting...in terms of the word suggestions it gives you.
Before with 1.6, when i'm almost finished typing a word it'll 99% of the time suggest the correct word i'm typing and all I do is press space bar and it'll finish it for me.
NOW with 2.1, no words are suggested that would make sense... If anything, when it does suggest words, it'll the peoples names on my contact list.
Even for simple words like "Hello" ....before when i type H-E-L...it'll suggest HELLO for me. Now it'll have Henry or Helen...not even "Hell" or a non name word.

Before i would enter some words in my dictionary that's either short-term for something or slang... but 1.6 will still be able to predict and suggest easy the easy simple most sensical words...now its doesn't do it at all.

It won't correct my spelling mistakes like before either...
For example, If i typed "Annoyid" ...before it would suggest "Annoyed"...now it does nothing... wtf!

Anyone else experiencing this??
