Hi,

I've seen a few reports now that are saying the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will not be getting any further firmware updates and that they are stuck on 2.1, does anyone know for sure if this is correct?
Seems odd to me given the lates announcement of the Arc that will be on the latest firmware version and it would be very unfair to the rest of us if they dont keep us updated, i know for sure i wont get another SE if this is true.

Get used to it. As far as we all know, the X10 Will NOt get 2.2, in fact many of us, like me, on AT&T have never gotten the official 2.1. I did root and upgrade with Generic, but never actually got the real 2.1 Good luck!

The only thing I have seen regarding this, is a tweet from SE where they said that they believe the curent 2.1 on the X10's, is better than a vanilla version of 2.2.

All the articles I've seen saying that SE have confirmed the X10 is not getting 2.2, is based on that tweet.

To me, the tweet is not saying 2.2 is a definite no, more along the lines that if they do release it, then it will be once they have finished tweaking it to the way they like it. Basically, if they do release it, it won't be for a while...

This is not actually confirmed by SE, they just said their 2.1 is better than 2.2

But I wouldn't be suprised if they never release 2.2, because they have announced the Arc now, so they will be focusing all their attention on that.

I agree...but that's not to say that there will be a ton of people that will have 2.2 on their X10s....just that it's not going to be from Sony :)

Who knows...in the future we might see even newer versions of Android on the X10. I just hope their is a big enough part of the X10 community that keep help improving Android on the X10.

The main thing i want it for (not even sure this is correct) but so that i can put my app's on my SD card, i really dont want to get to the point of worrying i'm running out of memory or losing productivity of the handset due it being full.
Arc or no Arc i still think they should update the rest of us, after all we have given them custom still and it would be unfair to hold us back more than they already have, my phone seems in the dark ages comparing to HTC who get the updates as soon as released

I have had around 110 apps loaded on the x10 and never got a warning or anything. Even though their isn't that much space it has never been a problem for me. One big game I downloaded said it was going to install on the SDCard.

What I realized is the more apps I have loaded the slower the phone (to a point)....same on my buddy's Galaxy.

Hi everyone

I emailed sony yesterday and they have got back to me this morning regarding 2.2 upwards and this is the reply that i got

"Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre regarding further Android updates for the Sony Ericsson X10 handset.

We can confirm that we believe a further Android update for the X10 family of handsets would not drastically improve the user experience. Our developers included features in the Android 2.1 handset which is on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of Android 2.2. We will continue to provide system updates to the handset, but this will not include an update to the Android platform

We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Now personally this disappoints me that they have left a perfectly good phone on the shelf now. Why not upgrade to 2.2 then leave it there. Looks like we stuck with 2.1 as everything else advances unless we root and load it. Just goto wait for a decent working version of 2.2 or even 2.3 to come out then going to ROM it all the way

Blood boiling again at this f-ing phone and Sony Ericsson. So many broken promises...

Really? Is flash support on android 2.1 on a par or better than 2.2? Is the ability to move apps and stuff to the SD card on android 2.1 on a par or better than 2.2?

Am I missing something? Can these things be done on 2.1 (without rooting?)? Because these (along with multitouch, but that's another story :mad:); were just some of the things I was lied to about when getting this phone.

Lack of flash support, and any commitment to it, is one of the main reasons why I didn't get an iPhone; but I was told it would arrive with the X10 with 2.2 - which, when I bought the phone was told by Vodafone and SE would be 3rd quarter last year; but more recently, 1st quarter this year - NOW I HEAR IT'S NEVER ?????.:mad:***** SEETHING ******:mad: You've got to be kidding me... I want my money back.

if flash is so important to you why did you buy an X10 when it didnt have it.
SE never promised us 2.2 either so that agruements a crock of shit.

Me too. I have over 100 apps, never been warned that memory is getting low. So it's no problem for me either

Vodafone promised you there would be 2.2? Why the hell did you trust Vodafone?

I also want flash player, but I knew the x10 didn't have it when I bought it, so i'm not complaining.

I just wish they would unlock the bootloader, so we can get what we deserve from the phone. But they know the devs will do a hell of a lot more than they could, and they know they'll get a lot of stick for it.

Naivety. Will know better in the future. 1st smartphone and 1st contract and 1st dealing with a human when buying a phone! :(

I was prepared to wait a few months as the deal they gave me on the X10 was

I'm not surprised since there's already an upgrade to the physical phone...the Arc. Oh well...it's time for the community to shine...and beleive me they will. :)

Since the iPhone is probably the number one cell phone out there (when it comes to sales) even they still don't support Flash. Neither does their iPad.

This is because apple and adobe are having some cat fight lol

I would love the Arc but i'm tied to the x10 in contract now until at least August 2012. I do love the phone but i do think it's unfair that firmware upgrades are being stopped.
Saw a report saying dualtouch is being rolled out to the x10 which is good, when they do the next update to 2.2 (if there is any!) i'd like the ability to move my apps, yes i have enough memory etc but i like to know i can move them.

just hang on until our xda developers complete the 2.2 OS for everyday use.
right now u CAN update to 2.2 but its in early testing stages only some features work and some doesn't ;)
