Xoom ad campaign

Does anyone else think that Motorola and Verizon are not doing themselves any favors with their current ad stratgy? As with the original Droid it seems that they are content to market primarily (and seemingly entirely) to a male audience. The Xoom commercials are very "techy" . My wife loves my Xoom but she acknowledges that if I didn't buy it and she would never have been interested in buying one from the commercials.

Apple knows marketng, obviously. Moto and VZW need to go to Marketing 101. :(

As a female, I tend to find this line of reasoning both a little compelling and vaguely patronizing. I happened to get really excited about the OG Droid from the ad campaign. I was excited about the Xoom before I saw any of the ads but they would have gotten me excited as well. So obviously there are some women who the ad campaign works for.

However, I also understand that I'm a little more technologically inclined than a lot of women, and as such, I might be more masculine in my likes and dislikes in that regard.

I think its important to remember that there are probably just as many men who aren't compelled by the roboty feel of the ad as there are women who are.

No disrespect intended. It was widely known that the OG Droid was marketed widely to a male audience. Does that mean that women wouldn't like it too? Of course not, but Moto made a conscience choice when they marketed it as I believe they are doing now. Find one woman using a Xoom in a commercial, you can't. Acknowledging there are only a couple of commercials out there but they involve a guy playing video games in a space ship and a guy breaking a Xoom. No women shooting pics, laughing on the go with their Xoom, reading books, checking emai or even doing business. No women at all.

its techy for anyone, males and females both lol....they will miss general non techy people but then again selling them an 800 tablet would take alot to begin with so i think there target audience is most techy people

many companies are not investing as much as they used to in commercials. some of the reasons are

1. DVRs are here and people FFW thru commercials
2. demo[graphic]s are watching less TV as before
3. more and more demos are watching online
4. the market that has the most buying power (18-34 year olds) are more tech savvy (ironic) and dont sit in front of a TV to watch commercials.

this has led companies and marketing to using different strategies.

that said, i have not seen ONE commercial from moto on tv.. this is because i do NOT watch TV. i dont have cable. i watch what i want to watch via hulu, vudu, etc.

how did i learn about the xoom? form the tech sites and this forum.. because im a geek and thats how geeks/early adopters get their news and thats who moto knew would grab this first.

so out the gate they (moto) wont spend tons of money on the device because its not fully ready for prime time yet. they dont want the masses grabbing them so early because then it would be a HUGE fail DUE to the fact the xoom is not fully ready.

now when the wifi model is released and moto gets the sd card/lte working, you will see more promotions.. may not be traditional TV ads, but more promotions to get the masses on board..

the evo had virtually ZERO promotion on the TV, yet this handsets was sprints biggest selling handset to date!

so now PR firms drop the info on the blog sites, crackbook, tweets and then they let US promote(!!!) by spreading the word, reviewing, etc...

no ladies huh? well that will come.. in contrast you see women in more ads overall than men...

I wonder if the ad campaign is misguided. Maybe a simple straightforward campaign about how to put it in our daily lives would be better?

Ad campaigns, by and large are irrelevant. People learn about tech things from social networking sites, not from TV. TV ads just wring up maybe the few who might not use social media, but they are unlikely to make a tech purchase without asking a more "techy" person anyways.

Well, all I can say is this: like it or hate it, the Droid campaign was INCREDIBLY successful and kicked off Android's current success. If a campaign sells millions of units of a previously unpopular product, it counts as a success.

Wow! I love people who answer just to answer and don't really have the answer .. I know he posted it to youtube and movie studio is the android equivalent to iMovie except with way less features .. He had an animating app .. Almost like adobe after effects or something of that nature .. I know it probably doesn't exist and they did it for marketing purposes but please don't talk to me like I am posting this from an iPad when in fact I have owned in the past A G1, N1 D1, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab and currently own a DX running liberty and a rooted Xoom .. I'm a little further into the game then a simple "um i over looked a stock app"

Sorry to be a dick but these forums drive me nuts when people posts just to have posts under their avatar
