Help Xoom Freezing Up

My Xoom freezes up least twice per day. I'm not really sure what's causing it. Just now I tried to remove an app from the home screen and it just locked up.

If this took place with my Incredible, I'd pull the back off and do a battery pull. With the Xoom that's impossible. I found a way for anyone one that needs to to force a reboot. Hold the up volume button and the power button at the same time and the device reboots every time. Just sharing my knowledge.

BTW if anyone one else has been having this lock up issue, please reply below and let me know if you've figure out what is causing it.
 
the forced reboot has been discussed here and is the equivalent of a battery pull. i do think its also in the manual?

anywho, this could be a rogue app. i think you have installed gears for android yes? if so and you have installed an app thats not really ready for honey primetime, it could be hanging up something in the background, causing your issue.

i know thats not much to go on, but perhaps look at the last app or two you installed and perhaps uninstall to see if this corrects the issue. ive not sen any delays on the xoom at present......
 
Heey my Xoom froze for the first time today, and thanks to this forum the reboot helped alot! I was trying to open "tikl push to talk" when it froe, this is the first time it has happened since I bought It. I clicked to open it multiple times before I realized it happened. It was acting like the program was opening and then it would close. I'm assuming it was the application. Once it happened I had no idea what to do I was actually pretty pissed cause I couldn't pop the battery out and I couldn't restart it. Hope this helps!
 
Mine froze 3 times so far, each time doing something different. One time it was just using a YouTube app, others I don't remember. Getting quite annoyed at this. Felt a bit helpless for a bit until I discovered that restart combo by trial and error.
 
if its anything like the x it wouldnt shock me...im on 3 or 4th x i dont remember which but they all freezeee or restart almost everyday..

That hanging also happened to me when I tried to install 'stripeymilk' . Don't know why, after loading with no problem so many other apps .
What I know for sure, your trick (sound button + power on) worked perfectly .Thanks !
 
It only does it when I open a app, even native ones that came built-in it freezes then reboots, I have done so many hard wipes and it still does it, but if u just have it on the home screen it will won't freeze or reboot I can't root it cus it has 3.2 on it.

Hi ,I to have this issue,mines one of the origonal versions.Ive upgraded the firmware released last month..but it still freezes.... People have mentioned rougue apps, but mine does this using google maps... Other times its been left on charge, i go to use it and the front screen, splits and frezes...im so pissed,ive no idea why this does this but dont expect it when you pay
 
I've had my xoom since April. I use it in my work at least several hours a day and tonight is the first time it just froze up. Your fix worked perfectly as advertised. Thanks much for the post!
 
I've had the Xoom for about two weeks for work and this morning was the first time it locked up, but during boot up. I have tried the reboot (power/unlock and up volume buttons for three seconds) and it does not recover. It just locks up with the Motorola Dual Core logo on the screen.
 
I have also got the same problem. But, instead if i lock the screen(press power button) and then unlock it works fine.

Is there a solution for this?

I have had my Xoom since Dec 3rd and today it just froze after I plugged it in to charge.

After about 10mins it booted back up, is this cause for concern?

Should I take it back to Verizon, or is this common?
 
My Xoom Wifi reboots at random times, and usually locks up in the middle of trying to reboot. It usually takes several forced reboots to get it to come up. Occasionally, it will try to reboot when it is asleep. When this happens, it sucks the battery dry in just a few minutes. This started immediately (within 2 minutes) of downloading Ice Cream Sandwich. Prior to that, I had zero problems. I called Motorola, and their only suggestion is to send it back to them. Unfortunately, I'm out of the country now, and shipping it back to Motorola would be prohibitively expensive and very slow. I brought it with me to use and this problem has rendered it effectively useless. I'm seriously unhappy with the test team that didn't find this problem before they shipped ICS.
