Help Xoom Status Bar Brightness?

Hi folks - My Dad - all 75 years of techno geek in him - just got a Xoom.
He loves Android (on his EVO & trying to learn the Xoom) but his eyes can't seem to see the status bar down @ the bottom clearly.

It looks dim. Is there way to adjust the brightness for the status bar (particularly the lower right one)?

I don't think you can change the brightness; but there is a app called Battery Notifier (big text) free and the (Pro) paid. You can choose different font. Works for me. Also when you tap on the time the the/temp/battery use age pops up.
