Help XOOM Update Fails

tbitblula

Lurker
Hi,

I have a problem when receiving the OTA update for what I presume will be the 3.1 version of Android for my XOOM.

The update downloads, the devices reboots, the recovery mode starts, a progress bar progresses, the android logo with exclamation mark stays on for some time, the device reboots and a message pops up: "Update Failed" (or something similar).

I have also tried doing this after a factory reset (tried both the factory reset from the settings menu and from manually entering recovery mode and selecting wipe cache and after that wipe data - factory reset). Same thing.

I must mention that I did receive an update some time ago, and that one worked. Unfortunately it hadn't been the 3.1 update that I so eagerly await.

I must also mentioned that back when I first bought the XOOM (from the UK) I tried to manually update to 3.1 and semi-bricked it. Fortunately I was able to find the stock images for the euro version and managed to load them back. Ever since the tab worked flawlessly. So I'm guessing that this counts as the tabled had been unlocked and rooted in the past, although from what I can read on the forums this has nothing to do with android firmware updates.

What's even worse is that for some reason I cannot create an account of Motorola forums, so I can't talk to anybody from them, I'm hoping you guys and the android forums can help.

Thanks a lot,

Vlad

In case this has any relevance, my XOOM's data are:
MZ601 - nothing strange here
3.0.1 - I feel really outdated with this :)
Fw config ver - GAS_EMEA_UCAEVRSTURTCOREEU_P028 - whatever this means
Baseband ver - N_01.83.19P - still no clue on what this is
Baseband config ver - UCAEVEUB1B8EU023.0R - same story here
Kerner ver - 2.6.36.3 a7301c@il93lnxdroid47 #1 - was this my stock kernel? no idea, I'm guessing not
Build - H.6.1-38-1

If your tablet was once rooted its quite possibly this is causing your issues. Even if you flashed a stock rom there could be other hooks that have been tangled up that could be messing with the verification checks after the update attempt.

Sad news.

And what might my options be? Is there any almost-safe way to manually update an European XOOM? I found hundreds of threads for US versions but only a few addressed EU versions and a lot of people had issues doing it.

Or at least this is how it was few months ago.

Yes, I would like to do that, but as I've told you in the previous reply, I can't seem to find an almost-safe thread treating EU manual updates to 3.1.

I can see all this big red disclaimers everywhere - attention! this has only been tested on US versions. proceed at your own risk.

Furthermore the 1-click-root that I used before is no longer available because they are working on a patch to make it compatible with EU versions.

If you know, can you suggest me a link that will guide me step-by-step and that has at least some bigger chances of success?

Thanks

hi,

there is a rooting subforum here. have you looked in there to see if there are any tips? also you may try the rooting section/development over at XDA as well. i dont want to drive business to another site, but there is more development of ROMs and such there.

so try the xoom sub root section for tips first though.. :)

naaah you wont have a brick. there are many UK owners out there who have ROM'med :D the xoom.. you will be just fine..

cheers... keep this thread posted.. you may be helping someone who is lurking in the shadows... :)
