Help Xperia Arc Slowing down

drnanda

Lurker
My Xperia arc slows down frequently while switching between the home screens and also when exiting from the internet browser.
Just to explain I usually press the return key on the left of the phone to get out of any application as I do not seen any exit option for the same.
Is this the right thing to do...doesn't it leave a lot of apps working in the background?
Please help me know how can I optimize speed and performance.

Also is there a way I can create a short cut to the call log?

You can press the home key in the middle to get out of any app. That is what i usually do. I think that might be slightly faster.
If an app works in the background is not determined by the way you exit it. Some start processes that run all the time. You can check what is running on the phone in the settings - applications - running. Most of the applications that works in the background, dont slow the phone down. For instance the sms app Handcent is running all the time but only noticably when you receive an sms.

The switching you do between different programs is not the same as the program is running in the background. When you leave a program, the page and other info is stored in memory for easy restart at the same point.

Download advanced task killer from market and u can kill background process manually or set it to kill automically when u press home or back button

Thanks Guys!
I used the Task Killer and is helpful. However, my phone still slows down at a few occasion and it takes time to switch between screens. What could be the possible reasons for the same?
Also when I switch on my phone, it takes more than a minute for the phone to boot, unlike the HTC and other comparable phones. Is this in built or do I need to check on something.

Lastly, still need help with finding a short cut to the call log. Is there a way I can directly access the call log by the push of one button.

Thanks

use free memory recovery
it will help.u jst. in two click ol unnecessary apps will b closed down

Again, those apps are unneeded and can have a negative effect. Don't forget Android, like Linux handles processes differently to Windows and background apps do not consume resources like in Windows.

This is what happens. Adroid see's app in background and take resources away from it to give to foreground taks, keeping a snapshiot ready to bring those background apps back quickly.

A task kliller shuts down apps, then Android starts them back up, then task killer shuts them and so on, wasting far more processing power therefore battery than you would just letting Android handle apps like its designed to.

Thanks for the insight I will certainly uninstall these apps.

I need some more help-

1. I keep getting this pop up message on my screen "activity phone (apps name) is not responding" and then it asks me to decide between wait or force close. Some times my phone also hangs with this message. Can you please explain why this happens and how can this be avoided.

2. Still am looking for a one point access to the call log. It is laborious to go to phone button --> then call log and then search and redial a number u were just speaking to.

Thanks

i am having the same problem. The Arc slowing down and pop up screen came out quite frequently. And yes, the boot up takes more than 3 mins...
sometimes it's really frustrating as it took more than 30 sec to wait for phone call apps to appear... sigh... this doesn't happen to other Android phone?

I use watchdog task manager lite, it doesn't kill the apps indiscriminately, it will only terminate them if they are using a lot of CPU. Hope that will help you.

I've noticed that installing any app that intercepts the home key action, like QuickDesk, Power Strip or Home2 Shortcut (my fave) causes big lag and memory issues.
Tried them all many times to prove the point, and had to reinstall ADW each time to get the phone back up to speed.

I don't think it's just a problem with ADW as people with the default launcher have complained about it in the app reviews.
