Help Xperia s / BMW / Bluetooth no worky!

I have just ditched an iPhone 4 and replaced it with an Xperia s.

Very impressed so far, however I cannot get my BMW 5 series to find my phone on Bluetooth. I have read numerous problems with contacts and address books but my car won't even recognise my phone. What can I do.

I am doing the exact same process to try to add my Xperia as I did with my iPhone. But nothing.

Yes my Bluetooth is on permanently.
Yes my phone is discoverable.
Yes my car is in discovery mode when I attempt to pair.

This is just pants!

Is this a phone issue or an android issue?
My dads Samsung (non android) and my mums Nokia (non android) are both recognisable.

I always had trouble with BMW and Android when we had ours. Sometimes it would connect and other times it wouldn't. No rhyme or reason as to why. Yet my phone would always connect to my Pioneer head unit in the Mustang and function perfectly. It's something to do with BMW's firmware in their unit. What year is your 5 series?

Mine was a 2006 and didn't work. It's something to do with the way some car companies set up their Bluetooth firmware. Mine have all worked flawlessly on aftermarket head units. Never worked right on my BMW. Pretty sure my dad has his Galaxy S2 working on his Mazda CX9.

As said it is just the way some manufacturers are on my mates vw the only way to get his HTC to link via Bluetooth was to root the phone and install an app to make it compatible...

He didn't want to do that so paid

Had a few issues with my Lexus is220d; seems to have settled down with .73 firmware. I also have an htc and that's stable too.

I have now successfully paired 3 non android phones with my BMW.

So am happy it's a problem with my phone, not the car.

Let's see if the new upgrade makes any difference, when it arrives!

Just upgraded the firmware.

Bluetooth works fine.

Well chuffed!

Gonna start playing with the NFC stuff now I can use my phone in the car.

Then its onto a Sony smart watch next!
