Xperia Z Waterproof

The holes are likely to be covered with a watertight acoustic membrane of sorts. The actual speaker/mic could be sitting behind that membrane.

Pretty much like how your eardrums prevent water from entering your head. :D

I have an Xperia z. The headphone jack, charger hole etc all have lids which I presume have to be closed. Order to go under water (I would not want to try with them open) and that allows it to go underwater. Once the phone gets wet. The loud speaker goes very quiet for a while. Mine usually takes around an hour or 2 before it gets back to normal. The normal speaker however (the one u use when ur talking to someone on the phone will work fine. So u don't have to worry about not hearing someone if u want to make a call

Hm... I bath with my Z almost every day and it doesnt have the speaker problems... Also how the earpiece and speaker and Mic works is has a waterproof layer under, but sound can travel it. So thats why waterproof phones doesn't have the best call quality.

It is normal to get some drop in volume/quality of the speaker after it has got wet as there is still a hole that water will sit in (not anywhere that causes damage) and this will be a slight issue till it dries.

Now im curious why my xz doesnt have speaker problems after a full 20 minute bath with me.

Has anyone tried the phone in a swimming pool/sea. My gf is looking at the Z and loves the idea of being able to the take into the pool. But like all things she's sceptical of the waterproof ability.

She might want to wait another month or two for this to be released then. :)

The Z's IPX certification only covers it for 30mins @ 1m, and Sony themselves insist that it's not an 'underwater' camera. The ZR is its more adventurous little brother. ;)
