xScope, a multitouch pinch zoom browser

I tested the most recent version against DolphinHD and Stock 2.1 browser

Results?

Xscope is SLOWER.

Tested with a stopwatch and a couple large sites (non-mobile). Everytime it lagged a couple of seconds. Speed is a huge issue on phones IMO. Plus it's more bothersome that xscope claims to be faster when it's not.

Fix this and its poor handling of bookmarks, and THEN I would like it otherwise.

Not on my phone. xScope is faster than Dolphin HD. Make sure you clear cache on all browsers so that you are measuring the same thing. You should also make sure the network you are hooked to is stable, as any network instability will greatly influence perfomance tests.

BTW, on my phone, Opera is faster than xScope, but doesn't render as nicely.

Cache was clean. DolphinHD can clean it everytime you exit. This was performed on my home Wifi network, I doubt it comes anymore stable.

Opera is definitely the fastest. But due to rendering issues and horrible zoom, I didn't bother to compare.

Still, my personal results showed Xscope to be the slowest compared to other browsers. Maybe there will be different results on another phone.

For some reason, I've not been able to get Google Buzz to load in Xscope for the past couple of weeks. Well, it loads the navigation bar etc but just hangs on the 'content loading' spinner. It happens on all pages within Buzz but all the other Google web apps work fine. I don't know if it was an Xscope update or a Buzz update that caused it and can't even say exactly when it started happening as I only use buzz sporadically.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing and is there a solution?

Strange... Just logged out and back in several times, cleared cache, restarted browser and now it works fine. Should really have tried all that before posting, sorry!

Any chance of changing the text color on the page options. Currently white and very difficult to read. Much appreciated

I love the browser and was about to purchase the full version, but I can't find a way to make it my default browser? I use webclips so this function is very important.

I believe for android 2.1, you can only clear current default so that next when you use browser, the system will pop up a chooser for you to choose where you can indicate 'always use this app'.

xScope,

Regarding what the other commenter posted before, I'm encountering the same problem on Droid X. I'm not using any custom themes (browser or otherwise) and the menu text in the android drop-down is white on a light blue background. I tested it on a friends phone (Droid) and it looked fine, so it might just be an issue with the X. Thanks for producing such a great app, after a little more testing I think I'm going to have to pony up for the paid version :D

Why are upload links always replaced by an "Uploads Disabled" button?

This is the case for the stock Browser as well as Xscope. I have read that Opera Mini does not have this important limitation.

Why can't I upload stuff from Android using Xscope?

OK, I found the answer:
Issue 2519 - android - Browser should support file uploads (input type="file") - Project Hosting on Google Code
So, it seems Google just overlooked the need for a native file manager in Android.
Opera Mini built one in, so file uploads work for it.
Why couldn't Xscope build in a link to its OWN internal file browser?

xScope is the best browser i know (opera is faster but it doesn't work that good as xScope).
It't too bad that i can't get the full paid version because im from Poland and here the paid market is not available. Could you add a way to get it in countries without the paid market?
Or could i get a free version of the paid xScope(please)?

Xscope decided to stop remembering my history. If I'm on google and type "g" into the location bar, nothing shows up, so I have to manually type in every website. Reinstalling it doesn't seem to do anything either.

Just wanted to drop some love for this app!!! I look forward to the upcoming changes!! ｡◕‿◕｡ Kudos to you and mucho thanks!!!

I think there's an issue with Froyo 2.2 on my Droid X and xScope.

Seems like if I have flash content running and I exit xScope, it doesn't actually close xScope. The browser closes, but the flash content is still running in the background until I force close it using a task manager.

Hey Mr. X--

Remember me?

You've come a LONG way since you started with this thing. It seems like only yesterday that you had only 100 downloads in the market!

Great work. I hope you have gotten enough enjoyment and money out of the process for it to have been worth the time and headaches.
