Good Morning -

Apparently there is an XTC clip for our phone.

My question, is this a reliable way to go? Anyone have any prior experience with this tool?

Also, could someone explain what this does please? I believe it allows you to S-off, which is important, but some clarification for a N00b would be awesome. Thanks.

also a noob, i was doing great with my rooted ally and was creating a rom and got bricked, ordered a DInc2 today so should be here by thursday. im gonna try and teach myself like i did with the ally but i have a few questions just to get started.

what is S-off? and S-on? also i saw a custom rom but no info on how to root... have we gotten root yet?

HTC models have a Security Flag which controls what can be flashed to the phone. During development, the Security Flag is OFF (S-OFF) which allows developers to flash unsigned images to the phone. For shipping models, the Security Flag is turned ON (S-ON) which means that only HTC signed images can be flashed to the phone.

By using the XTC Clip to S-OFF a phone, you now have a phone that is in development mode and you can flash custom images and zip files such as custom Recovery module, custom rooted ROMs, etc.

so S-off brings us on the edge of root? now all thats needed is custom recovery img and we can get started right?

So is AlphaRevX suppose to be updating to a version that will work with GB? I'd love to have root to delete the bloatware and use SetCPU. Maybe even flash some CM7 goodness?
