Yahoo Email

rpartin got it. I was about to post that myself. You need to make sure the incoming and outgoing mail server addresses are entered that way. You have to reboot first because i tried all those and still would not work ONLY after I rebooted.

YOU DO NOT NEED A PREMIUM ACCOUNT. Stop the rumors.

whats the steps on getting your yahoo email to work exactly?

actually...mine were different. I entered this

imap: imap.mail.yahoo.com
smtp: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

go to mail icon
add account
enter email address in email address filed (name@yahoo.com)
enter password at password field
select MANUAL SETUP not next
select imap
username= name@yahoo.com
password = yourpassword
imap server= imap.mail.yahoo.com
port=143
security=none
optional = blank
select next

you will then be prompted to sign in do so.

will then be taken to the smptp settings which only prompts (going form memory) you for address which is smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com. leave the port as is. then select next. sign in. name your account and that's it.

Stupid question... this is all about getting the mail live on the phone, right? You can of course just go to Yahoo in the web browser and check your email like it's a desktop computer, right?

go to mail icon
add account
enter email address in email address filed (name@yahoo.com)
enter password at password field
select MANUAL SETUP not next
select imap
username= name@yahoo.com

select next

you will then be prompted to sign in do so.

i did exactly this and it still says "incorrect Info" what gives??

yes but you wont be alerted when you get an email. you have to keep refreshign the browser and that sucks.

Sorry but I was going off of memory but see the correction in RED. i had to look it up again.

Thanks for the help guys. I was kind of bummed that I could not get my droid to access yahoo mail. It's working fine now and I don't have a premium account. Now if I could get Exchange to work without TouchDown, I'd be very happy. Heading over to that thread now ;-)

I was this close t sending all my yahoo contacts over to my gmail account. I may do that eventually anyway, but am glad I have the choice to keep yahoo.

John

Wow, your awesome, thought I wouldnt be able to use yahoo without paying for the premium service, works perfect now, just have to enter the imap.mail in the optional field as well otherwise it won't work..

Wierd, it keep saying bad username / password, i cant get pass setting up the incoming mail screen

For those having trouble, turn off your WiFi. I believe the Yahoo IMAP service checks your IP address and looks for a Verizon address range. Wifi will use your router's IP address provided by your Internet service ie. Cox, Comcast, Verizon, etc.

Turning off wi-fi got me farther, I changed the SMTP server to smtp.mobile.yahoo.com but it keeps saying "unable to open connection to server". Any ideas?

Thanks guys! Just did this on two Droids. Worked Great!

Make sure Wifi is off. Reboot the phone.

Then follow the steps already mentioned above.

go to mail icon
add account
enter email address in email address filed (name@yahoo.com)
enter password at password field
select MANUAL SETUP not next
select imap
username= name@yahoo.com
password = yourpassword
