yahoo mail and eris

I just got my eris and I am unable to get my yahoo account on the phone. The verizon person was even trying and was unable to figure it out....does anyone have any step-by-steps to help me out?:)

Make sure your wifi is off first and anytime you want to get yahoo mail on your phone.

You have to setup the accounts manually.
Change your server to imap first!

First open the mail app and enter:

Username: full email address

Password: Yahoo! Email password

IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com

Port: 143

Security: none

SMTP server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

Port: 587

Require sign in: Yes (checked)

Username: full email address

Password: Yahoo! Email password

If you have 2.1 all you have to do to add a Yahoo email account is to type in you Yahoo name and password and the servers do everything else. Mine works perfect. Prior to 2.1 when I was running 1.5 I had to set up my Yahoo using a imap account, but on 2.1 imap is no longer needed.

I set my SMTP server as smtp.mail.yahoo.com (without the mobile.) and a test e-mail to my G-mail account went through without a problem.

Noticed my yahoo mail wasn't working last night/this morning so I com eon here, do a search in the forums and the very first line I read was the issue....I'd be so lost without these forums.

And, that just seems funky to me that wifi has to be off for mail to work.

Good news, Yahoo Mail users, there's actually a Yahoo Mail app now! Bad news, the reviews say it's slow and plagued by ads.

Yahoo's page for it: Yahoo! Mail for Android

+1 I put it on my phone and the wife's Eris, very nice for Yahoo software! The new messenger app doesnt keep your phone awake either, nice first offerings. They aren't 100% bug free but still worth a try!!

I do enjoy the app, but so far after 1 hour of testing, it definitely lags and needs touch-hold options (like gmail and the default mail app), other than that its a GREAT app, shows ALL folders just as if you were in mail.yahoo.com, with tons of potential once they optimize it to run better. Apparently based on all the comments even the Moto Droid, and Incredible and the N1 has lag issues so its not a phone issue but programming. after optimization im sure it will be better than the stock mail app for yahoo mail at least.

I like it. It's not great, but for me, it's better then the stock mail app. The fact that I can utilize all of my folders is the key. I really want a way to delete multiple emails at once, and a few other things, but I'm sure they will come with time. The app just came out, so there will be updates coming.

I really want a way to delete multiple emails at once,

This is already standard in the app, when your in a folder, say inbox, upper right hand corner is an "edit" button, hit it.. now you can select multiple items and delete.... :-)

my biggest pain is the LAG.... but enough people will complain and they will fix it.

Thanks! I can't believe I missed that. I sat here and deleted 30 emails by viewing them one at a time.

i dont see why people just dont open the browser on the phone and login like you would from a pc. yahoo's page is nice. you have all your contacts, folders, and everything. and best of all, nothing gets downloaded to your phone.

oh, and there is nothing to setup

Just download the new yahoo mail app from the market. It works fantastic and it is push email. I actually removed my HTC Yahoo mail app and am now using the new one.

The only problem I have with the Yahoo app is that it always runs as a service. Uninstalled. Let me run it manually and it will be great.
