Yeah, but it doesn't have a true 4G network

The Atrix will be using HSPA+ on AT&T's network. Technically, that isn't 4G. At best, you could really only call it 3.5G. AT&T will come out with a true 4g network, LTE, later at the end of this year. The phones coming out then that take advantage of LTE will blow away the Atrix.

That is pure speculation for one you have no idea what kind of hardware these phones will have. Also until the actual LTE is actually viable those phones will not be able to even utilize those speeds

Technically, from a marketing perspective, it is 4G (but I do agree with you that it really is 3.5G). This has been said numerous times so why did you make a post about it again? Why not post in the many other threads out there. Also, this phone won't be blown away by LTE. We do not even know what sort of speeds LTE will bring. It is very likely that a HSPA+ network will be faster than a new LTE network that has limited coverage areas. Specification wise, this phone won't be beat by anything for well over a year.

Once again we are in agreement

Dude did the Atrix beat up your little brother or something what's the point of posting this? Newsflash technology progresses very fast so of course a phone coming out at the end of the year will be better.

hahaha +1

yeah, no sh** sherlock, the phones released a year from now will be better than the ones released now? Really?!

Personally, I thought next year's phones would suck, and the year after that, I thought we would all be using 2G flip phones with black and white 1.8" screens.

I also think that 2012 is going to be the year that VHS makes a comeback.

I want to know who really needs 4g in the first place..

I am still on a dsl connection that gives about 3 Mbps

and people are all psyched out about 4g which is suppose to be better than the connection my entire house uses and is split between 5 people..

Just because you're satisfied with the equivalent of snail-mail doesn't mean everyone else wants to join you. I have Comcast 20 Mbps service at home and can't wait to upgrade to 50 Mbps this summer. Your home internet service is slower than my lowest speed test on my cellphone.

I am not happy with my internet service.

Its the best I can currently get.

I am only stating the irony of people bitching about wanting faster connections on there phones when I can't even get a fiber optic line to my house.

And I think I have a pretty valid point for what it is worth.

How much are you going to really download or use over a 4g connection to begin with? sure facebook and apps might load faster.. but, at some point more speed on phone's more speed just seems frivolous.

I had 16 Mbps at my apartment before I moved back home and got 24 mbps regularly. I was happy.. I could download full video games in 20 minutes from steam.

Feel like I've gone to hell being back home.

With all that said.. my point about phone's is at least somewhat valid. You don't download steam games to your phone over 4g. And being somewhat reasonable.. I would imagine if you needed to download a fairly large file to your phone.. wifi would be a more ideal alternative to any cellular based service.

I wonder how I can make at&t or verizon run that fiber optics line to my house...

You obviously weren't at the CES show actually demoing the Motorola Atrix, so you have no basis for your statement whatsoever. I do.

The Atrix is NOT coming out with LTE. None of AT&T phones are, but AT&T will come out with phones towards the end of the year with LTE. Mark my words.

First off I didn't say the Atrix would come with LTE. Did you even read my statement, and again what the HELL does that mean! Just because the phones coming out at the end of the year have LTE they wont even be able to use it because LTE wont be fully deployed until 2013, and just because they can access those speeds occasionally doesnt mean they will have better hardcore specs, ie better dual core processor or better onboard RAM! So your statement of this phone becoming obsolete by years end is idiotic at best!

He never said it was coming with LTE? Yes, AT&T said they were coming out with LTE phones by the end of the year... Your point?

You sit here and state this phone will be obsolete in 6 months because of LTE. Many people tell you that's in no way guaranteed because LTE will not be available in many markets and the handsets coming out are not guaranteed to have better specs. But no matter how many people state this you sit and make general statements with no facts or evidence contrary and then call me a liar please

Verizon deployed it's network Dec. 5th (I believe), and will be launching their first phones in March. If AT@T follow in the same footsteps, say Aug. - Sept. they LAUNCH their LTE network (which is the same as Verizon in every way, which is very good). Then I expect phones by Christmas probably. If not the first being at CES... That would seem about right to me.

They did say LTE Tablets in 2H 2011 which brings it just to the end of January 2012 as a deadline.

I currently connect my iPhone 4 to my TV for Netflix streaming and higher video quality can only be achieved by better bandwidth. Anyways, why would I want to wait longer for something to load when I don't have to? Why did they ever make car that could go faster than 10 Mph?

You know.. when I originally made the point.. you could have just responded with that..

Instead of arguing that I am happy with what I have when I'm not :/

I didn't take into consideration netflix or other things.

Your analogy with the car is a bit backwards.

My point was more a long the lines of "what good does more internet speed do.. I doubt your mind is going to comprehend the difference in a page loading a 100 mbps vs 200 mbps"

While thats an extreme example.. My point was for general purposes there doesn't seem to be that much of an advantage.

You could have just flat out said netflix to make your point from the beginning.

But, TBH I sorta wrote off netflix from the beginning due to limited bandwidth :/

Actually, Verizon's LTE network isn't 4G either according to IMT-Advanced, which dictates 100 Mb/s peak download performance as the threshold. Verizon's network is technically 3.9G.

LTE Advanced will bring true 4G.
