Yes, the 32GB SanDisk micro SD card *DOES* work with the Droid

I've just merged the four posts about the 32gb sd card, as I don't believe we need four separate posts for the exact same topic. Hopefully it won't get too confusing for everyone.

My understanding was that the 32Gb card was not compatible with earlier versions of the OS. Of course, Verizon still shows the Droid only handling up to 16Gb, while /\/\otorola says "up to 32Gb". (I read the other day that Verizon and /\/\otorola were dropping the Droid anyway, amid hints that there really will be a Droid2.)

So did you just copy your 16GB contents to the PC and then copy everything back to the new card? Sounds like that would take awhile...

the 32 gb card comes with a little usb port adapter... so I put the 32 gb card in the phone and docked it into my cradle (plugged into the PC), put the 16 gb card in the usb adapter (also plugged into the PC), then I selectively dragged over only the stuff from the 16 gb card that I wanted on the 32 gb card.

then i copied over the rest of my stuff off my PC that wouldn't fit on the 16 gb card.

took a couple hours to get everything transferred over, but I just slept while the PC did the work.

I ordered the card at the $99 price. I'm not complaining. Congrats to those who got in for less! My sd card is completely at zero. I have gone through my card, and I have no idea why it's so full... I don't have any music on it, only a few Droid-taken pics and a few downloaded pics. I've gone through it with Astro and also with Finder on my Mac and just don't see what the heck could be taking up 14GB! So I'm thankful for this site and ESPECIALLY this thread, or I would have been in a real jam!!

Have you tried formatting your card? I've noticed that sometimes when I forget to properly remove sd cards and usb flash drives, they will sometimes become corrupt and show that they have less available space than they actually do.

Krataos

I see it at $99 and the message ""Great News! Your Order qualifies for an additional discount." beside that, does that mean it will be cheaper after checkout? I tried going forward a couple steps. Does the charge just show up on your next verizon bill?

I found the problem. Over the last few months since rooting, I've deleted large files from my sd card from time to time, and I thought they were gone because in Astro, the trash appeared to be empty.

I suspected that Astro might not be showing me everything, so I downloaded Root Explorer from the Market, and wow - I discovered very quickly why my sd card was so full. I deleted all those files and gained back more than 10GB of space on my card.

I'm still gonna keep the 32GB sd card when it gets here because my phone storage is also getting low, and I want to move whatever apps I can to the sd card which should take care of that.

I ordered on Sturday and I think it was $79.00. Should be here today. My 16GB card is stuffed right full. I can't wait to slap that 32GB SD in there and fill up all that free space with even more crap! :P

This 32GB card is a class 2 and that is not good for HD

Also anything else is going to be really SLOW

Spoke with Sandisk yesterday and they tell me that they are expecting a class 10 in mid August....so I am waiting for that one

One of the first questions I asked on this forum was regarding the speed (class) of the mini SD in the Droid, and whether sticking a higher class card in it would improve the performance. Apparently, the Droid can't make much use of a faster card. You'll have to convince me otherwise with Droid/Motorola specific data, not SD tech data.

BTW, I copied my 16GB to my 32gb mini via an SD mini adapter card and the USB mini reader supplied by Very$on. It was cooking along on my laptop for about two hours, during which time I brushed my hand (accidentally) across the back of the USB reader with the 32GB card in it, and it was FREAKING HOT!

-If you can transfer all your 16GBs of crap onto the new card without sticking it into your phone & using the cable, I suggest doing that. Two hours of that high a temperature might not be bad for your Droid, but it definitely can't be good for it.

worked great for me.. i too recommend taking the card out of the phone and transferring that way... only took a few minutes

Wow, mine was $110 with tax! I canceled the order... I'm not taking THAT deal. I'd rather wait for the Class 10 card. I'll just watch the movies I have on the 16GB one and watch how much music I add to it.

Thought I would mention the downside that no one seems to be speaking of... either cause people do not have near the amount of content I do, or because they already know and just assume everyone else does.

The 32gb card DOES work with the droid but with a few caveats. The Droid CANNOT format the 32gb card. You will need to do that through the PC.. Mount, right click on the drive, and choose format (Fat32, allocation Default). Otherwise you will experience boot issues and possible Infinite Loop boots. Other than that you might want to get SDrescan from the market to scan the card before loading anything from it. I've had experience with the gallery freezing and then crashing the phone, or PSX4DROID not loading a rom because, while the media is there, the phone can not find it. SDrescan has resolved both issues.

Just an FYI

Thank you! This fixed an issue I was having w/ the ShootMe app

OMFG dude.... did you not read ALL these posts? Does the title of the post somehow confuse you? Does my post explaining that there are some issues but here are the work around's somehow not make sense????? Look, I'm not trying to point you out personally... I'm just sick of reading through threads where people ask the MOST inane questions that have been answered over and over and over and over and over all before the question is ask!!! It's urgle..

To answer your question - Is the Droid 1 compatible with the 32gb card? "Yes, the 32GB SanDisk micro SD card *DOES* work with the Droid" .....

RANT RAVE (Sorry but... seriously?)

Sometimes being rude is the only way to make a point. You have to admit, in reflection, that it was an inherently meaningless question. The title of post answers your question, I had posted an answer to your question earlier that day... you litterally ignored every single answer... maybe "being rude" was the only way you might of understood what every body else seem to just naturally get... cause, you know, most people understand that when someone posts "Yes, the 32GB SanDisk micro SD card *DOES* work with the Droid" as the title we take it for granted that it... umm... works. When you ask if it does.... what else is ANYONE to think? Maybe you don't speak common english? Maybe the 2 pages of polite conversation about how the 32gb card is compatible with the Droid was confusing to you? I think you understand now, after I took the social RISK of being rude to you, that "Yes, the 32GB SanDisk micro SD card *DOES* work with the Droid"... personally, I think you should thank me.. but you won't. You'll feel slighted again and call me names... maybe throw a few "Yo Momma" jokes at me... but at the end of the day... you will never forget one thing... "Yes, the 32GB SanDisk micro SD card *DOES* work with the Droid"!!!!!!!

I think that's where the confusion occurred; now that the OP doesn't contain the answer (which is now in page 2) I can see how he might have been mistaken. Not everyone will read an entire topic if it looks like nothing but speculation.

Not to mention the fact that it's 4 different conversations going in 4 different directions all merged together. Who would really WANT to try to follow all that?

That was a BEAUTIFUL dis-or-ta-tion on the whole not being nice routine. I applaude you there sir. Actually, I read evrything, and I did understand that it will work. Just "doublchecking". So, if you get irritable again take a deep breathe and think happy things. I thank you for your research, and I will purchase the 32g. I know there was a person who got the hookup on NOT spending alot on it. Any update on that. I m gonna check. Thanks again for all of your hard work. RELAX
