Yet Another Apple Event...

So where I work is one of those town square things - hotels, retail, food and movies. We also have an Apple Store. So there must be an event, I think I heard the new IPhone gets released Friday, as I work overnight for a hotel in the square and I've already fielded some questions about food (my hotel's restaurant is closed this late) and I've seen people whom are hotel guests leaving to go wait in line in shifts. They'll get a room, put four or five folks in the room and then wait in shifts so they can get some sleep and shower.

Why don't these folks just wait and get their phones later? When there are no lines and they can just walk in? I mean it's a phone folks, it's not that important if you're the first to have it or you get it next week or so. For that matter just buy Android and save yourself the trouble. There I've vented...

Why do people queue for games, or to go to the opening of a movie, or any of many things that you could do with much less hassle slightly later. Just strange things some people do.

Now when it comes to phones, my preference is to let a few thousand other people buy it first and use it for a few weeks. Then if it works OK in real world use, rather than a short review with a selected sample, I'll think about whether to buy it or not myself.

Yes exactly! I mean do we all remember the IPhone 5 and it's problems with the antenna? Apple's solution was that you needed to learn how to hold your phone a different way... Really? How about you make a phone that doesn't have a faulty antenna? But there's a lot, namely electronics and software, that you shouldn't buy on the first day it comes out just so that you can let others find the flaws and give the manufacturer time to fix them. Didn't the Samsung 5 and/or 5 Edge have problems? The newest Batman video game was so horrendously flawed they had to stop sales and recall it. Wonder if those folks whom purchased it on the first day were compensated???

Because there will always be people who want to be the first to have the new shiny. There's also a chance they'll get their 5sec of fleeting fame as a news camera pans across the waiting horde 'cos, even now, an Apple launch is apparently Really Big News.

No queues here today... anyone wanting a 6S either pre-ordered or simply walked in and took out a contract/upgrade. We sold 3 out of the 95 in-stock. They are even available SIM-free if you're happy with either the 16GB in silver or the 64GB in grey, which is unusual for Day Zero.

Or even worse. Does anyone remember the pentium flaw from many years ago. How about the famous BSOD at one of Bill Gates' Windows unveilings. As for the hordes that throng to be first to own latest apple anything, I have already decided that Apple will be responsible for the future Zombie Apocalypse.

It's nothing I'm interested in myself, but for some people it's like a social event.

Did anybody see the lady who had the robot thing waiting in line for her? Reminded me of Sheldon on Big Bang Theory when he made the Shel-bot. :p
