Sorry I can't seem to find a way to place my question(s) under another user's post. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710, version GB27 - Sprint), running Jellybean (4.1.2) as of yesterday's upgrade (via Kies).
I've already been having crazy battery drainage since the last update & have been looking through some of the advice on different forums. Kept the phone either off or on 'Airplane" mode when not using it & it still drained. I thought about the battery age, bought a new one, plus a backup & an external charger. The one on the charger charges, but the one in the phone actually loses power, even plugged in. It doesn't get hot but I get messages saying "charging paused, high voltage". According to some folks, this became a common problem after a certain update & a non-root solution still hasn't been found. I wanna be able to turn off unnecessary receivers that use alot of data & pull alot of power, that seems to be doing the trick for the folks who are talking about it.
Deleted unnecessary programs, turned off services when not in use, dimmed the screen & shortened its timeout, and got an autorun manager that cuts background things off that aren't self-restarters. To keep other things 'killed', I'm getting the idea some have found work-arounds if they root their phone. Is this something I should delve into? Just not sure I have the smarts for the process(es). I understand the warranty thing, but I'm willing to try it. I'm eligible for upgrade in Sept & will probably just go with a different phone. Wonder if I can un-root & put back to factory settings then? If it's a good idea, could someone please walk me through it?
