Help Yikes, rooting, should I?

Okay, the first thing I want y'all to consider is I'm not a techno nerd. I have nerd in me but not enough tech knowledge to be nerdy in that area. I had a note 2 until about a month ago. I got impatient for the jelly bean update that gave multi window option and so I rooted my note 2, first and only phone I've ever rooted. Put clean rom 3.3 on it and had the multiwindow function. Loved it. I didn't realize that the update to multiwindow was not nearly as versatile as clean rom's multiwindow function. Never knew until I upgraded to the note 3. Wow, extremely limitited.

I'm with AT&T running kit kat 4.4.2. First if I root the phone and install a custom rom, will I get the same multiwindow control that I had with my note 2? If the answer to that is yes, does it depend on the custom rom I install and if so, which custom rom should I install? Also, I've seen where it says you can't root a phone with 4.4.2. Is this true because on you tube found an instructional video on rooting an att note 3 with 4.4.2.

The only custom ROM you can put on the phone is one based on the stock ROM. The bootloader is locked and so far no one has figured out a way to unlock it.

You can do that with a couple of apps, you don't need root.

Yes, you can now, but that's only been true for a few days. I'm throwing a party and you should come **GS5 ROOT THREAD** - xda-developers

Okay, so here are my questions based on what you said.

1) I can't install a custom ROM but it will run stock 4.4.2? So then I could use a launcher such as go launcher?
2) So what apps can I use without rooting so I can do the multiwindow with more choices of apps that I can use in multiwindow?
3) If a you tube instructional video shows you how to root a note 3 that is dated 2 weeks or 7 months ago, I will probably brick my phone.
Thanks.

Thanks, I will. I don't get on very often because I really don't know much but I do follow directions well. I watched all the videos on You Tube ragarding kit kat, at&t and rooting. Found I liked some guy galaxynote3root and I watched that one so many times, I had it memorized. He also had posted instructions which helped. I don't have too much help to offer but I can now say towelroot.com with aplomb. :)

A1: You can install a custom ROM, it's just going to be basically "hovering" above the bootloader since we can't unlock that without tripping the Knox counter. You can install launchers on stock still

A2: Using any app you want in MultiWindow is going to require root access.

A3: Kairosgrammy, there are plenty of guides out there to help you root your device :). We now have root! Website is live. - xda-developers

Glad to hear you got the proper solution :)

Enjoy your rooted device!
