You can upgrade, which new phone to do you pick

Ok. Given the following 2 scenarios

You can upgrade in Q1 2011 and have to. Of the existing and upcoming phones, which would you pick and why?

You can upgrade in Q2 2011 and have to. Of the existing and upcoming phones, which would you pick and why?

Well, it all depends on what you want from your phone.

Personally, I plan on upgrading to the Fascinate soon. As far as Q2, who knows? I'd have to see all the phones that are out then and compare them and THEN decide. I mean, I know LG, Motorola, Samsung, and HTC are releasing LTE phones within the next few months, but I'm not really interested in LTE. There's not really much info about what OTHER new phones will be coming, so it's impossible for me to say what I would want.

Now, I'd get the Thunderbolt or even the Bionic. Q2, whatever LTE capable HTC phone is available.

I went from d1 to d2g. The battery on this is terrible. At 12 hours, I am down to 20%. This was from 42 minutes of calling, and 8 text messages, checking email, but not responding to any (just reading).

So one thing I am looking for is something with a better battery life. I know no one knows how say the bionic is, but between current droids, x, fascinate, incredible, etc. how is the battery on them?

If you are a techno-geek, who needs the latest and greatest, and has to get it now: Droid X.

If you have to get it now, but don't need the latest and greatest: Samsung Fascinate

If you need it now, but looking for entry-level: LG Ally (From what I gather, avoid the Vortex).

Don't need it now? Wait for the next round of phones to come out; which should be soon. Then, if you need the latest and greatest, you'll have about 6 month's of being "top dog". If you don't need latest and greatest, when the next round comes, the Droid X's will be about $50 w/two year.

Where do you see the incredible in you ranking of current offerings?

The Incredible is off the table. 802.11n ONLY. No G, B, or even A (Which is crazy, since an N radio can do A)...

The only reason I didn't get the Incredible was because of that. And, if it does support it, they need to mark the packages better, because it showed N only, and made no mention of G or B. I would have settled if it had N and G, but a vast majority of Wifi points out there are still G.

If I could wait for the 4G phones coming out, I'd get the Droid X today. Q2, I'd want to see each offering in person before making a decision.

The dInc does G. My friend just got one so I called him. His home WAP is a G and he connects to it.

They need to mark the box better... ;)

Ok off the phone, got a Great Rep!!! My options are:

Return D2 (this is my free on from a BOGO) for the following:
Credit my account back the costs which are taxes, plus get my upgrade eligibility back
or
Swap straight across for a CPO Inc or SF (not sure which is better here)
or
Swap for the CPO DX and they will credit my purchase for $49, thus bringing the cost down to $50 for CPO DX

What to do?

edit: sorry for the Hijack, I think we're looking for the same answers though, at least for Q1- I still have a Q2 upgrade available...

I'd get the brandy-new SF. Nothing against the DInc, except for it's "CPO", which can vary quite a bit.

Or, if you are willing to wait a bit, return for full credit, and wait it out a bit.

There's no such thing as 802.11n ONLY. N radios are either single (2.4GHz) or dual (2.4/5GHz) band, but will always be at least backward compatible with B and G. Technically, the 802.11 standard requires backward compatibility, but A runs at 5GHz so single band Wi-Fi hotspots may not support it (even N). My understanding is that the Incredible radio is 2.4GHz only so it's only B/G/N capable. Might be wrong on that. I've been using mine on my G network for 8 months. I'd say it works. :)

that kind of brings this back to my original question ;)

Well, I mean really we don't know the full specs of all the next round... So, personally, I'd wait and see unless you need one now.

The next ones MIGHT have 4G. They might not. 4G might be priced higher, it might now. 4G might be capped, it might not. Dual cores might be in most of them, maybe just one.

Way too many variables to make a decision on which phone to get in the future.

I'll wait to see if VZW offers one with a Laptop dock, like the Atrix. Otherwise, I'll hang onto my FASN8 and get a Xoom when they come out.

My next phone must have an unlocked bootloader. So probably no moto for me. My incredible on CM7 gingerbread is as fast (or faster) than any phone out, and i am getting 30 hours of battery life with pretty heavy use. So... probably going to hold off a while.

It connects to B and G without issue.

Agreed. I never liked moto blur on the GF's phone anyway. HTC just has some damn good apps and I love sense, even if most of the stuff can be replaced comfortably.

I put ginerbread on my eris, that thing is quick now and like you said, the battery life is pretty stout too. Too bad the rom isn't so complete to offer the rest of the features of the phone (like GPS or a camera).

However, HTC Thunderbolt I'm upgrading to as soon as it comes out. Was thinking of moto bionic, but forget it. If any more 4g HTC phones come out later in the year, my other line (Incredible) will get upgraded to them.

The CM7 Gingerbread roms are pretty much ready to go. Camera and gps work. I haven't really found anything that doesn't! I cant stand motoblur either.
