For those that don't know, Virustotal scans each file with over 40 different Anti-Viruses and posts the results of each one.
Anywho, I couldn't upload "system.img" because it's too large. But I scanned it with both Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 coupled with Threatfire, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, both reported back that there's no virus. Now I'm not trying to start a flame war by saying all those other people didn't get a virus. I'm just saying that it definitely was NOT from the update. Maybe it was from the ad's or too much porn
I'm going to settle this whole virus thing now. I unzipped the file and scanned each .img file at virustotal.com here are the results:
"File boot.img received on 2010.03.26 07:37:01 (UTC)
Current status: finished
Result: 0/42 (0%)"
"File hboot_7501a_1.49.0000_100124.nb0 received on 2010.03.26 07:38:07 (UTC)

"File radio.img received on 2010.03.26 07:40:53 (UTC)

"File recovery.img received on 2010.03.26 07:43:04 (UTC)

so answer me this batman, is there a way to backup the Eris like I do on my Droid when installing custom ROMs, since you don't need to be rooted for this method, or is there a root way to go similar to my Droid (asking for a friend)
If you read how some of us got the virus you would know it is NOT from the file. But from pop up ads. I did not open any ads, the file and do not visit porn sites. So scan the ads that pop up or just keep going to mega upload and hopefully you can get the virus too.
Whoa whoa calm down sparky. I was just trying to make sure that everyone knew it wasn't from the update. And if you can read, you saw that I said "it was probably from ads" ads include pop up ads. No need to go wishing a virus on someone
On a side note, I'm so glad I did this update. The battery life is MUCH improved and there's no more dialer lag or google login error. Pictures don't work in Gmail still but oh well that's why HTC made their mail app.
I know this may sound stupid but I just tried to DL the file and now it says the file is invalid or corrupt.... what do i need to do to resolve this issue??? Any help would be appreciated. Thnx
I downloaded the file from MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service, i shut down my eris and rebooted with volume down and power button. i get to the i guess "bios" and i have to options Fastboot mode and recovery. i try the fast boot and it goes through the file but then goes right back to the first screen with both options. i try recovery and it gives me an error. ive tried multiple different files with nothing. any suggestions?
You are correct I should have read further. Sorry for the comment. I am updating the phone right now hope it all goes well. Coming from win 6.5 to droid last week is a learning curve
If I install this, will it disable me from receiving the OTA notification? And can it be reverted back to stock 1.5?
It's all good Yeah I'm sure that is a big learning curve. I came from a non smartphone (LG Scoop) straight to this so it took me a while to get used to it as well.
Um..so I turn the phone off, press end+volume down..and then what? I dont see any "follow instructions on the screen" kind of things.
You need to press and hold them for a few seconds...I also think that if you look back through the thread someone else mentioned that combination did not work for them either, but they did offer another combination that did.
Further notes on the update, Docs to go re-registered me no problem as soon as I entered my email address, and I found a apk for WeatherBug elite that let me get that back.....how pathetic is it that I had to go to a basically pirated app to get a program I've already paid for? It seems to be working with no issues whatsoever on the phone. So, I'm basically back to what I had installed before the upgrade.
Minor issue/fix:
For some reason I noticed that my contact list was out of order, and that a handful of entries were out of order at the beginning, it was obvious they were the numbers I called the most, but it was a "WTF" moment. Turns out there is a contact group "Favorites" and those were in it, so it puts them to the head of your contact book. Removed that label and the list went back into order. The idiot phone also installed every single flipping email address in my gmail into my contacts, all 1500+ of them. To fix that, Menu > Settings > Google > turn OFF Sync contacts (this is the easy fix, if you want to sync some of your contacts from gmail, but not all, there are other threads), then open the phone and go into your contacts, Menu > View > turn off Google. There is an option there for "Show all gmail contacts" that you can turn off as a subheading, possibly that will strip out the ones not in your "my contacts" on google, IDK. This doesn't actually remove all the entries from your contact list, but you at least don't have to look at them, and I'm too flipping lazy to hand delete that many. If somebody knows a better way, I'd love to hear it.
Hope that helps someone.
