Youmail!

I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about Youmail here. This app is freakin amazing. When I have new voicemails, I just tap on the app and the list of voicemails I have appears. I tap on whichever one I want to listen to and it immediately starts playing. And it's all FREE. Damn! No more calling in to check my messages.

Another cool feature is you can designate different outgoing messages for different contacts. They even have some stock ones with various themes.

If you want your voice mails transcribed, that costs extra but with the ease and speed of listening to them through the app, I don't see why you would need this feature. This could be my new favorite app.

Here's their demo. No, I don't work for these people, I just really appreciate how great this is and that it's free.
YouMail Tutorial

I used YouMail for quite some time and it was great. But then Google Voice easily replaced it for myself and my home line. Now I have free transcription and my home VM are pushed to my Incredible.

Yea GrandMasterB, Google Voice sounds even better than Youmail with its free transcription but I don't want to have to tell people I have a new phone number. And I heard you can't use handcent with it. I'm still waiting for google to respond to my google voice request but now I don't think I would even use it. I have my Incredible set up quite nicely.

You dont change your number. It comes with access to a number you can use to make calls or text with but you dont have to use it. I just use GV as my voicemail and transcription service but my phone number is the same number I have always had.. I have never actually used my GV number :)

One thing I really liked about YouMail is the selection of canned messages you can assign to your contacts. You can assign greetings in GV too but there is literally nothing to choose from.

Yea YouMail is great.. I discovered it when I first had my BB and its worked well for me ever since, no issues at all that I can think of.. I finally got the chance to sign up for GV and opted out, don't think I wanna part ways from YM yet..

I've used YM for about a year now and it's awesome. I've forgotten what my passwode for my Verizon voice mail is, I haven't used it in so long. Like Zenman was saying you can customize what each contact hears when they reach your voice mail. It's a great feature to have. A little tip: if you want someone to stop calling you just set their contact number to hear " We're sorry you have reached a number that is no longer in service..." You won't hear from them again. You can also access all of your voicemails online.

And I don't work for YM either, I just like the app.

I used Youmail on my BB while it was beta, it was ok not great IMO but ok. once it came out of beta I didnt want to pay for it. I see people talking about it being free did they stop charging for it?

I guess so, I never knew they charged for it in the first place. I found it in the market, 100% free.

YouMail is free, but you can pay a few dollars/month for more features including transcriptions. I've been using YM for some time now as well since I loved it on my old BB. I have a GV invite just waiting to be used and I keep thinking about taking the plunge but I've been very hesitant for some reason. Guess I should at least try it out, I mean everything else I use seems to be from Google. Just concerned with how smooth the integration is with texts and voicemails.

x2! I used Youmail for all of my past smartphones, but once I got an Android phone (the Dinc, obviously), I switched to Google Voice. It runs flawlessly (especially now with the latest update) and is designed specifically for Android phones.

YouMail rocks. I could not live without it.

GV is a decent alternative (and offers free transcriptions) but it lacks some of YM's polish. (i.e. I love the way that YM addresses my contacts by name when they call)

Subscription is well worth it, for me. Although the YM app sucks on Droid as much as it did on bb. Not really a need for the app, but it would be nice to have for a coupe of situations.

(If GV had bene first to market, I may never have tried YM, so I am glad they were a few years behind on this one )

i need someone to convince me to try GV...YM is flawless for me and more customizable

what do you mean??? i love the app and to me youmail would be kinda useless without it.

Used YouMail for a year with my bb but switched to Google Voice when I got the Inc. YouMail is good, gv is better IMO.

I had Google Voice and ditched it. The transcription was beyond horrendous - never did I have a transcribed VM that was anywhere close to being accurate. Completely useless service for me. Think I'll give YouMail a try...

When I used Youmail, I always had the voicemails emailed and texted to me. I never used the app because it did suck on WindowsMobile and BlackBerry. I Have never tried the Android version. I didnt even use the GV app for the first 6 months I had GV. I do use it now and its nice.

I do have to admit I miss things like being able to choose from all the funny greetings, and Youmail gretting my contacts by name BUT once you actually have transcriptions of voicemail you simply cannot go back, its just too nice. I copy and paste or forward transcript details on a daily basis.

gotcha...the app it a bit more polished than the BB one. i actually used a third party app for my BB.

Have also used YM for a year plus now and love it. If you opt (pay) for the advanced transcript it is spot on accurate. I also have a GV number, but just use that for spammer sites and such. Both are great solutions.

You can set individual greetings on GV, too. I have different greetings set for my wife, friends and colleagues at work.

I've always done emails (one of the reasons PUSH is vital for me).

The upsaide to emails is you can archive them with the rest of your email.

It is often easier to "reply" to a VM with an email.
