Your #1 Tip for New Users

widehead

Android Enthusiast
Ok, well I thought I'd try and get a thread going that would be mostly aimed at people who have just got their hands on a Desire.

It seems to be the same story over and over: we get our new phones and spend a week or two (or three) trying to get our heads around it. :D

I personally spent (at least) a week fart-arsing around with Advanced Task Killer:mad: and we can all agree what a complete waste of time (and battery) that rancid little application is.

So, my number one tip for new users would be:

:eek:DO NOT INSTALL ADVANCED TASK KILLER!!!

What about you guys?

I have known it cause issues sending and receiving mms. Apparently the bug is fixed now, but it didn't fix it on the phone my fiance had.

Personal preference really, but that is a pretty big bug.

I prefer the stock android app to the HTC, Handcent or Chomp ones. The last 2 are pretty ugly too.

Coming from a Blackberry Bold, I enjoy any app that pops up a message.

Handcent just makes things easier for me and it's customizable as hell!

+1 for Handcent. Better than chompsms IMHO.

My tip for new users (& count myself as 1 :D) is if you wanna find something out, search on here ;)

Never had an issue sending MMS with handcent. To be honest never had an issue with it fullstop. How can it be ugly when you can customise it however you want?

Tried the stock android one and I do like it over the sense one but still prefer handcent :D

I did like the pop ups I had on my blackberry bold, but I don't really need them anymore. For security purposes I don't bother.

You can only change colours and from 1 of about 4 or 5 layouts. It's not that customisable.

1. Dont talk about Android club.
2. DONT TALK ABOUT ANDROID CLUB! :D

but seriously,

Get Astro File Manager
Get WidgetLocker, to let you add widgets to the lockscreen
Get Extended Controls
Get Folder Organizer
DONT USE A TASK KILLER

My sms not being displayed on the screen for all to see

That can be easilly stopped from in the settings. Can set it how you like.

Thats a lot more customisable than both the stock android and sense ones.

Its all down to personal choice though. thats the great thing about android...Something for everyone :D
