Your AT&T Experience

I was basically forced to switch to AT&T when my sister attended a college that only had reception from AT&T. I switched from Tmobile and noticed a substantial difference in connection. I have been on AT&T for about 4 years and I have no issues with its reception, but they have messed up on billing the account quite often. Luckily, the workers at my local AT&T usually have nothing to do because the store is always empty, so they are happy to help us. My siblings then changed to Verizon and whenever I compare reception it is exactly the same. I might have one less bar from time to time, but for the most part I am up to par if not higher than him. Oh yah, did I mention the bill is 1/2 of the price that my siblings are paying for? In general, I am happy with AT&T except it is a bit of a dishonest company that puts limitation on phones (i.e. no sideloading and you know the rest)

AT&T is generally good. I think last time Consumer Reports did the rankings, it was Verizon, followed by AT&T, followed by T-Mobile. The reason why so many people complain about AT&T is because those same people are using iPhones which, as we all know, have really terrible reception. That is one of the reasons I bought my Captivate instead of an iPhone 4.

You might want to check your facts... I remember the Jan 2010 carrier ratings. AT&T was about dead last in coverage and customer satisfaction surveys.

I've been a customer for over ~20yrs. I can attest to the fact that ATT coverage is definitely inferior in Portland, OR area. My entire family is now on Verizon because of the much better coverage. I'm the only hold out on ATT, because I need the GSM capabilities for when I travel.

On the positive side, the Captivate I have now gets somewhat better coverage than my old Cingular 3125.

Been with AT&T/Cingular/AT&T for about 8 years now. My account has always been a business/Premier account so I believe I get a different customer service department when I call in.

In my time, I haven't experienced any "deal breaker" coverage issues, call quality has always been good, customer service has been pretty good and my account perks just make everything sweeter.

I've been waiting for the past few years for the iPhone to release to other carriers so that flocks will cancel their AT&T contracts, sign up with Verizon and bog down their networks. I also blame iPhone users for killing unlimited data (thank god I'm grandfathered in). Looks like 2011 will bring some change though!

My experience has been good so far. Good customer service, not so great reception at certain places but works for me. The only thing that I don't like are their rates.

Well, no one likes to pay, but they're cheaper than Verizon, at least in my area, and they allow the rollover minutes - that's a great feature for me now that there's only two of us on the plan (last child has flown the coop), we never run out of minutes now no matter how much we use the phone. I do wish they had a more flexible data plan for me (I've just now started to use data with this phone, I've been with AT&T for years now, how I wish I had a grandfathered data plan!!). Yes, I put up with sometimes spotty coverage for my area, but I despise Verizon enough to deal with it.

I can't complain about service in my area except no 3g till december. I don't pay for my cell phone bill though cus i work at a cor store.

I do, however, wish people would stop expecting SO much out of the reps at the stores, because we don't have the kind of power customer service does. We have a decent amount of power, but not the kind of power that the detailed issues require that people come in here with on a daily basis.

From a CS standpoint, it is getting better. Us reps have to use the same departments that the customers do, except we JUST finally got our own internal customer service line. Same people, just a more direct access (without a bunch of options punched into the phone).

I live in Alabama, and I'm stuck on AT&T, but I personally get great service. I use an iPhone 4, and even with the antenna problems (and free case), I get great service everywhere.

I also am a wifi hunter and enjoy how easy it is to turn off data on the iPhone, so as to not go over the 200mb limit I have. Which is such an awful limit to have, they know people use about 400-500 mb, so their either give you half as much as you need, or make you pay for 4x as much as you want. I hate the phone companies
