Rooting means some modification in Kernel to access the system files area. This term comes from Root User (or Super User) in Linux.

In your app drawer, do you see some icon with the name "SU" or "Super User" or Super SU" ?

If yes, your phone is rooted.

thanks for your help
i went to settings ... Application ... all but i couldnt find any of the icons you mentioned ...

so what we do now

Regards

Try changing CSC to XEU or some other. In many cases, Kies refuse to offer updates when CSC does not match the firmware.

Alternatively, you can always flash a stock ROM using Odin.

if i upgrade my Samsung to this new firmware , in case i want to be back to original firmware .. do factory reset will return the original os ?

Regards

You can always install your old firmware but you will have to download and install it via Odin, in the same way as you installed the newer version.

Factory Reset wouldn't bring your old firmware back.

i tried this Android AdvicesHow to Update Galaxy S2 GT I9100G with Official ICS 4.0.3 XXLPQ Firmware - Android Advices

but failed

The guide you refer to is a very good one if you own the Samsung Galaxy S2, "G", variant, (GT-i9100G) which, judging from your original post, you do not. This is the reason that you have, "messed up my phone".

You should instead, follow the excellent advice given by Ijaz Ahmed in post #8.
