Root Your perfect ROM?

CdTDroiD

Android Enthusiast
So I've been thinking about it and trying to come up with my perfect combo. Seeing as i'm more addicted to flashing ROM's than a crack head is crack, i thought id share mine and get some more ideas lol.

So... From what i got to work with from the developers so far :)

Rom base: InsertCoin 2.0 Lite A2SD+
Reason: I like the small fonts, the better FM Radio app compared to gingerbread ROM's. The extra features like the "magnifying glass" when editing text, and I have warmed to the browser, I like the Sense HD "Mail by HTC" app better because of the flags, and the tick next to the email's which you dont get with standard Sense ROM's

UI: ADW Launcher EX
Reason: Super, super quick. lots of mods like extra rows and columns on the home screens, being able to change the text and icons of apps... all the other ADW features.

Theme: Gingerbread top bar with the Gingerbread icons + Battery percent. (same with the notification pull down menu)

Mods: Deleted the "htclockscreen.apk" to get the AOSP lockscreen again (remember to use an extra app for alarm because deleting the file means you cant turn the alarm off ;))

What else... I really like the glow over-run you get in gingerbread and i'd like to know how to get that with Sense HD ROM's

With this i am able to get good battery life, really quick UI, no lag anywhere. I also dont get ANY force closes and the ROM is overall very stable.

You guys got any ideas?

Rom base: GingerVillain
Reason: Clean menus, All benefits of Gingerbread (including battery usage graph and glow overscroll), Fast, stable, no force closes, easy to manage. I love the CM settings and Theme Chooser app.

UI: LauncherPro Plus (with desktop Visualizer)
Reason: A few bugs, but overall I love the slick UI, swipe gestures, cube transition between screens (looks great with Desktop visualizer creating a "grid" of icons. Love the resizable widget set up. Wish I could theme the app drawer though.

Theme: Honeybread theme chooser theme (blue overscroll glow, app header bars and nice glow effect on pop up windows) Modified to become Dannycombe in UOT (includes battery percentage and a more disctinctive Wifi icon in status bar)

Also use a themed Widgetlocker lock screen. The unlocker is a Cohiba Cuban cigar and the slider is the cigar band (hmmmmm cigar)

Blacked out Market

Mods: No Rom mods specifically. System/app darastically stripped out in favour of data/app. init.d scripts for HAVS CPU Vdd levels and SD read ahead.

Kernel Eviollet ManU 1.4 HAVS-AXI-CFS with custom CPU vdd levels (min voltage 875mV / max voltage 1300mV), Set CPU'd down to 128Mhz (with AXI) (max 245Mhz Screen off) on demand.

Custom Parition Layout, 115MB /System, 25MB /Cache, 298MB /Data (also running Dark Tremor a2sd+)

Replacement apps and widgets: Pure messenger widget for facebook updates. Pure GRID Calendar widget

I really liked some of the features of SenseHD (Insertcoin)
The text magnifying glass is straight from Apple, but it works brilliantly.
The ability to upload videos straight form the phone to Facebook was great too.
I also like the fact that notifications and LEDs work.
But I love the speed of Gingervillian and I've grown to love the AOSP keyboard and the light weight of AOSP with no lag or slowdown - I use Launcher Pro with it.

I just wish I could have AOSP with the desireHD/ Apple text selection and all the Facebook integration that just works as it should in Sense within AOSP.

Sense:
Personally I have found Sense is just solid and works how you'd expect and it just keeps on working.
But it feels laggy and sometimes does lag.
AOSP:
Fast, stable but lacking a lot of the bells and whistles functionality of Sense and also little extra touches seem to be flaky (I.E sometimes LEDs work, other times they randomly don't.)

To add:
Part of me is tempted to go back to Sense (not Insertcoin - waaaay too laggy :() but the moment something take more than a second to open or LP runs out of memory (all the time under Sense.) I'd be hankering for AOSP again.

Awesome, this could be a good thread :) im going to have to try your setup i think SUroot i like the sound of the theme.

I'm going to go back to LeeDroid 2.4 with no sense and see if it's better or worse than I remember.
Getting a bit annoyed with some of the AOSP things that just don't work/ are flaky/ only work on the 3rd Sunday of the month ;)

I may be back on GV pretty soon ;)

and yes - I am a born fiddler and can never leave anything alone.
and yes - the grass does always seem to be greener... often till I get there ;)

OH! and the Sense camera... so much better :)

That reminds me anyone know how to get the "wide screen" photos in the gingerbread camera? If possible

The AOSP camera on Deforst 6.1 is much better than sense (although not as pretty). GB AOSP camera's not quite there yet.

You can get widescreen on GV but I think not at 5mp

Oh that reminds me can't turn off the CLICK! and BONG! noises with AOSP camera when taking pictures/videos ;)

Picture quality was good on AOSP, I really liked deblur - one thing the Sense camera lacks.

Once I've restored my apps I'm going to have to go into apps management to move them back to internal... /cry hopefully I'll never have to go back into management ever again.

How laggy is your ROM?
I did like some of the features of Insertcoin but it was the slowest and most laggy ROM I have ever used.
It drove me mad within hours.
A fast version of insertcoin would be pretty cool (don't mind not using widgets but I like the Sense dialler, contacts etc.)

Keen for the link :)

I think i might buy Launcher Pro Plus also, what bugs did you notice?

Coming up....

This is the honeycomb percentage battery version.
http://db.tt/RHerGAA

Bugs, sometimes when hiding the status bar with a swipe gesture, the dock bottom half disappears off the bottom of the screen. A quick swipe to show / hide status bar resolves. Its not every time.

Our survey says "Ehh errrrrr"

S-off:

navigate to /system/media/audio/ui/

delete or rename camera_click.ogg and videorecord.ogg

S-on:

remove these files before flashing rom.

Thanks I'll get them out of the zip now in case I go back to GV.

assuming you just install the .apk from file manager?

Yup, and then use the themechooser app to select it.

Latest themechooser has issues when themes have no previews.

All themes have preview windows (mine doesnt due to modification).

You have to try and find the theme without a preview. Often between 2 other previews. Use the numbers to locate it. eg, if theme chooser has 1/4, 2/4, 4/4.... 3/4 is between 2/4-4/4

It really wasnt laggy at all, i had no issues whatsoever with ADW Launcher EX running over it. well worth a try. the link in my signature is a direct download

Awesome thanks, one thing (off topic) just installed Gingervillian 1.9, do you know how to fix the issue with Gmail app when you go into it it the email fills up half the screen untill you tilt sideways then back to portrait and it then fills up the whole screen. very annoying :)

Downloading it now :)
Sounds like it might be the best of both worlds - DesireHD Sense with no lag :)

How slow is the apps management window at building the list of installed apps?
I found GV was instant and all Sense based ROMs so far have been smoke and cuppa break waiting to load.

I struggled with this, even made a thread to get help about it. Didnt get a single response.

Eventually i found out a solution, and eventually got some explanation on xda (after posting my vignette solution).

The AOSP camera shoots with an aspect ration of 4:3, so the pics are bigger then the screen. The sense camera crops the top and bottom in order to get them to fit the screen. So technically speaking the AOSP camera is shooting a better pic.

If you want the pics in widescreen, you can use Vignette and set the frame to fullscreen. It will then crop the pics to the same aspect ratio as the desire screen.

I found it slow on the first initial run, but fine after that :)

Hmmm interesting.
Insertcoin lite doesn't have Titanium backup in it so went to download it and the market started downloading all my apps without me asking...
Thanks this may take some time lol

Also not too impressed all Facebook integration has been stripped out either.
I can work round that because it's no different to GV Facebook integration (I.E none)

When I can get control of my phone of course after it's downloaded and installed 60 odd apps and games :(
Looks like my phone might be out of action for a few hours.
Then I have to put all my settings back in my apps unless I can use Titanium to force it's data over the top after my phone has finished downloading.
