Root Your perfect ROM?

I'm on Gingervillain after trying a few ROMs.
ASOP ROM + CM settings + Go Launcher EX = power + clean UI + fun.

Oxygen and Redux looked also good for me, while MIUI is not my taste.
The disadvantages of Sense (HD) ROMs are: too heavy and still on v2.2.
I'd like to try the CM7 stable ROM, but I don't see any significant reason to move from GV.

Also not too impressed all Facebook integration has been stripped out either.
I can work round that because it's no different to GV Facebook integration (I.E none)

When I can get control of my phone of course after it's downloaded and installed 60 odd apps and games :(
Looks like my phone might be out of action for a few hours.
Then I have to put all my settings back in my apps unless I can use Titanium to force it's data over the top after my phone has finished downloading.

I always liked the Sense Facebook implementation tbh.
Was pretty seamless - at the moment using google for contact pics... urgh hehe
Will sort out soon.
Managed to manually cancel 50+ apps from downloading and installing which was a pain.
 
Download speed over wifi seems to have gone a bit borked as well.
About 8k a second... no wonder the download of all my apps was sluggish ;)

I did and have again. No noticable issue for me.

One thing though, I have a manually downloaded gmail /data/app and strip from the rom, so we have this difference between us.

Ok so what files would I need to pull out of Insertcoin full fat to put into Insertcoin lite to get Facebook integration into contacts back?

Never seems to update photos just uses google pics (which are horrible.)

EDIT: Tried same method with insertcoin lite and my half my favourites group have a blank portrait in the LP people widget but they have facebook pics in contacts.

That I hated about sense. It always used to switch my facebook contacts to google pictures. Hated it. Just random contacts. No rhymme or reason to it either.

I use sync my pix to update photos. I then turn off google contacts sync to stop the google images taking over. Not ideal but good work around.

Did you refresh the LP widget? I did find this widget an issue (LPP people)

Yup - one of the nice things about Sense, just give it your details and it does it all for you in the initial phone setup.

Yes I found that problem at first in Sense, then I just hid the facebook contacts from view and all was good.
The downside is that your Google contacts then contain all your facebook contacts - I tried to separate them and it all went horribly wrong.
So I just let the phone do it's thing and let google have all my facebook contacts as well - google syncs the contacts then Facebook for HTC Sense takes over and lays it's photo over the top.
Have had problems adding new facebook friends etc into my contacts, after the initial setup it never seems to bother checking again and I had a couple of facebook friends that Sense could never find so had to manually apply a picture to them.
Messy but on all my previous Sense ROMs it seemed to mostly work, well worked enough so I didn't notice.
Don't think it was a very robust set-up though.

Yes, removed and re-added it - first time I've come across a problem like this with the widget.
 
When I first had sense on 2.1, it used to sync the initial contact picture then stay with that forever. work around was to re-add facebook. Thats where syncmypix first came in.
 
I have to say I like HTC Mail in some ways.
It's the best app I have seen for displaying HTML mails properly and formatting them for the screen.
It doesn't play nice with LP for unread notifications and I miss having a delete button at the bottom of the mail (tick and delete from inbox is good though.)

I don't think it's push either is it?
unless I set it up to my imap gmail and I seem to remember it was a bit of a nause syncing then (was a long time ago so might be mistaken.)

As far as I know that has been fixed now.
Still all a bit flaky if you start messing with the contacts though I found.
 
Ok been playing with Insertcoin lite for a bit now.
Not as fast as GV (apps management or scrolling through long lists etc.) but better than I remember Insertcoin fullfat being.
The homescreens are smooth and it's nice having the DesireHD text selection.
I don't like the fact that facebook has been removed from the phone setup (using the facebook app is always a bit bodge-tastic IMHO) and I'm having problems still getting it working as well as GV (which was bad enough to start with.)

Not sure that for me personally it's worth loosing all the Sense stuff (like facebook) and not actually gaining a huge benefit other than a bit of speed and the text selection (which I do like) - in which case for a ROM that's got bad facebook integration but blazing speed GV is better IMHO.

So personally for me I think if I want a Sense ROM, I want a Sense ROM - if I don't then AOSP is far faster IMHO.
 
I may be one of the few that prefers to stay with Froyo for now, Gingerbread still gives me headaches with its issues. Anyways I've gone through just about every rom the XDA Desire section offers, so far:

pre-rooted 2.2 by teppic74 with handful of add-on mods (tweaks, fusecompress, a2sd) and I installed Neophyte's 1000mV HAVS kernel from AuraxTSense. I used to prefer LauncherPro+ but been switching between Open Home 6 and Zeam Launcher, ADW Ex is ok. I really like AuraxTSense and ReflexTSense, but like most roms, it has that notification power control widget which I really don't like, and there's no way of turning it off like you can in CM.

Cyanogenmod 6.1.1 is a very close second, very solid OS, I'm kind of baffled to why CM 7 doesn't have the same kind of solid sense to it that 6 (even nightlies) had.
 
I still get how GV integration is bad compared to sense. There is a way to get almost all you need from facebook.

Android / facebook integration in general is bad. Take a look at a blackberry, then you'll realise how bad android is at facebook.
 
Well tried Insercoin full fat again to get the full Sense.
Man what a total and utter lag-fest!
Already putting GV back lol ;)

I'll agree it's just generally bad on Android.
But Sense just seems to sync better without having to use syncmypics.

To be honest after the horrendous lag-tastic InsertcoinHD I can live with GingerVillian and syncmypix
