Your problems with Android

Drider

Lurker
Hey guys,

I'm doing some research for college as I need to build something for Android, whether it's an application or a launcher or anything along those lines. But first I need some statistics.

What do you guys find that the Android OS is missing or which components are problematic? It could be anything, no matter how small or big. For example, I'm annoyed because when I use the keyboard I have to go to the special character page to use the comma, or that when I put my phone on silent it doesn't automatically mute the media volume.

As a last thing, it would be great if you could specify whether your phone is rooted or not.

Thanks :)

First off, you need to keep in mind that some problems are not Android problems but problems specific to a phone/device or app. EG, they keyboard issue you have may well not be an issue with a different manufacturers keyboard or a third party replacement.

Having said that, my issues with 'Android' are:

(1) the potential security problems relating to the open nature of the Market. I know that apps have to ask for permission, but I also know that I am the ONLY person out of the fifteen or so that I know who use Android, that is techcally savvy enough to take notice of these. Everyone else just installs assuming that it's safe as it's from Google.

(2) related to (1) the inability to get updates unless you have a Google Nexus handset (which the VAST majority of people don't and never will). Having to wait for Google to send updates to the manufacturer and then for them to send them to the mobile operator to finall send to the users is a disgrace. If Google patch a security issue then we might have to wait six months for the update to filter down, IF AT ALL. Many handsets that are a year old or even less are not totally unsupported. This is not acceptable in these days of 18 and 24 month contracts.

Welcome to AF.com! I'm sure lots of people will mention battery life. Battery technology simply has not kept up with the explosion in mobile tech. Hopefully more improvements will be developed for batteries.
