Yeah, manufacturer claims for battery life are rather ridiculous.
Apple rated my MBP for 5 hours of battery life and I didn't buy that for a second. In practice, with a good battery but screen at full brightness, I could get 3:30 out of it. Not bad, especially considering how powerful the laptop was at the time, but nowhere near 5 hours.
I looked up a test done by Macworld I believe, they tried to get the actual 5 hours out of it and ended up getting something like 4:46 by turning off WiFi, bluetooth, having the screen at 1 click of brightness, and doing absolutely nothing but using Word to type the rest of the review out. Cool, a barely-readable typewriter that lasts 5 hours =P
The Eris gets me through a day, lasts only a bit shorter than my iPhone, but the Eris is more useful than the iPhone, so it evens out.
