Help youtube 1080p problem!

Camaro

Lurker
first I got my HTC one M8 before a week ago, after I updated the latest firmware the kid mode app icon has disappeared from the menu, so I tried everything to get it back but still no use, I saw the hide and unhide from the menu and tried to re install from play store but no use. after that I decided to factory reset the phone and wiping everything, when I did, the kid mode app didn't come back and I lost hope, even when I hold the power button there is no kid mode.

after the factory reset and the phone started and updated all the apps, when I opened youtube I didn't found the 1080p from the gear button in the upper right all I see now is 720p,I tried to reinstall youtube 100 times but still no 1080!. before the factory reset I was able to see 1080p.

THE MAIN PROBLEM HERE IS YOUTUBE!

but if anybody knows the solution for any problem please tell me.

Thanks and sorry because I think I wrote a story not a thread :P

You are fine with your post Camaro. Welcome to Android Forums. If you haven't gotten very far with your setup, you might consider doing yet another factory reset. I can think on no reason why the 1080P option isn't available to you. I'm not one that does a lot of youtube so perhaps another has additional info for you. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thank you very much olbriar, I'm sure that I will enjoy my time here, especially with people like you.

To be honest I did a factory reset maybe 4 or 5 times.

Ok does anybody have the same problem like me,that when you open a 1080p video the only option avaliable is 720?

Are you sure the test video is available in 1080p. I think YouTube will only give the option for 1080 if that quality is available. I know if I upload a video from the youtube app it won't upload 1080p no matter what I try.

Hmmm... As I type, another thought occurs. Under settings for the YouTube app, make sure you have it set to stream HD even when you are not on WiFi.

Beyond that I'm with Olbriar and out of ideas.

Unforgiven, thanks for your concerns ,And yes I tried a lot of videos that work in 1080p but my M8 only plays it in 720p. And I just opened the video that blenky posted up there and the highest resolution I have is 720p :( , and I checked all the settings and everything is fine.
and what I mean about the kid mode, that the app has suddenly disappeared from my device, even when I hold the power button I can't find it.

I don't have an htc, I'm guessing kid mode is specific to them so I'm unaware of that. I was just trying to help eliminate some variables on the 1080p question. I know that a bunch of the smartest people I know on AF have the M8, so they will probably see this and have some insight for you. Either way, I'm subscribed and I'll answer as best I can.:)

After viewing your post, I discovered that I can no longer view YouTube videos in 1080p either. I will be doing some searching, but I wanted to chime in that you are not alone.

Kid Mode still exists on my M8, by the way. So, maybe you are alone a little bit. ;)

That's weired because I have 2 friends and they have an M8 and they updated to the latest firmware 4.4.3 and still they can watch 1080p on youtube, so I think the problem is in our phones :S

That IS weird. Do you think it could be carrier specific? Are your friends on the same carrier as you? I'm on Sprint.

I'm on T-mobile, running Android version 4.4.2 and Youtube version 5.9.0.13. I used the test video link provided by blenky and I have the 1080p option. What I don't have is a gear button in the upper right corner. In order to get to my settings I tap on the 3 vertical dots in the upper right then the gear button in the middle. I also have Stream HD content over Wi-Fi unchecked. HTH

Nevis, one of my freinds have the same carrier as me,and the other one have a diffrent carrier. That's tottaly weired.
And FYI, I tried to contact youtube by several ways, but they didn't respond to me!,if you can call them please do and tell us what happens.

From what I've read Google are testing the 1080p streaming so you might see it come and go and only be available on certain OS numbers like 4.4.2 etc whilst they're testing it. Google like to do things like this.

Yeah, Nevis post about the Nexus 5 running 4.4.3 relates the same 1080p problem that Camaro is experiencing. I hope thy fix that before the update becomes available over T-Mobile USA.

Are you going to install the 4.4.3 update? Please let us know what happens to the YouTube app.

I just got the 4.4.3 update and I now share the 720p issue. I used blenky's test video again and only the 720p option was available. I guess we either wait for 4.4.4 or a YouTube update. Kind of a drag huh?
