Help YouTube not working - video being throttled?

AustinTech

Has anyone run into YouTube not streaming on your Bolt? I've had this problem the last few days and cannot get youtube videos to play at all. I don't get any error message, instead I get the spinning circle dots (buffering) that go forever.

I get the same results if I am in the app or using my browser (stock and dolphin). My 4G LTE signal is strong in the areas I try to watch videos, 2-4 bars. I did speedtest and was hitting 8-15 down and 10 up.

Can't understand what's going on... BTW - on wifi at home YouTube works perfectly on the phone.

Any ideas? I googled the issue and found very little info. I am at 1.8GB and have unlimited data plan. My paranoid mind is telling me Verizon is screwing with my ability to watch video on their network.

AustinTech:I noticed the exact same issues beginning on 2/24. My configuration/plan is similar to yours. I'll be watching this forum closely for answers to our posts!

I just noticed the same thing. I have unlimited data also. My other apps are working fine, but YouTube isn't working at all. Hmmm keep us updated.

Edit: also, this is the first time this has happened and also the first time I've been over 1gb of data within a month. I'm currently at 2.8gb of data

I've used more data than usual this month also, but nothing crazy. I am currently at 1.8gb. I'm going to call them tomorrow if the problem continues and ask them WTH is up!? I like to watch YouTube when I'm on the elptical at the gym and now my workouts are incredibly boring.

I think they are throttling us.

Let us know what they say. I just posted in the VZW subforum to see if it is a problem on other devices as well.

Same problems for me as well on my bolt. I switched over to 3g and it works fine and same with wifi. They are not throttling. My neighbor has the Galaxy Nexus and YouTube over 4g works fine for him and he's at 5gigs for this month. I did a battery pull/sim pull as well as uninstall/reinstall the app. No go.

Hmmm interesting.

Interesting indeed.

I thought maybe it was a problem with the app, but it doesn't work on the browser either. I read on google that about 8 months ago this problem was making it's way on some devices and it was associated with the offical Twitter app. Once people uninstalled the Twitter app then YouTube worked great. I tried all that, it is not the problem this time cause it didn't help.

I don't have any problems, but I've only used just under 1GB. I'm also running Cyanogenmod, is anyone experiencing these issues rooted or using a different ROM?

OK - just got off the phone with Verizon tech support. They advised that this is a known problem that they are working on. The guy said it has something to do with the new internet protocals (IV6 or something or other) that were put in place last week. They aren't working with how YouTube transmits video through the app or on the browser.

At any rate, they are working with YouTube and on their network to fix the problem and hopefully have a solution soon.

Woot!

I got an update to Youtube last night. Videos are playing fine, but I have been in Miami so I can't attest for it working in Atlanta yet.

I am on Colorado Springs and started having this same issue on Tuesday. When I'm home on WIFI I can stream fine, but here at work on 4g it just spins. It does work on 3G.

Google youtube stream being throttled and you get a ton of hits. ATT is probably throttling its highest data usage youtube.

To add to the fray this link is no longer available:

Error | DSLReports.com, ISP Information

But these are:

I pinged google and youtube and got consistently different responses for periods of time.

How to: Hold down windows button keyboard and hit 'r'
type 'cmd' hit enter

command prompt opens type 'ping Google' enter

type 'ping YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.'

I need to start calling att. its gotten worse lately on my pc and my Galaxy s2.
