Just got home this afternoon from my slightly extended 4th of July holiday at the lake....did I miss anything? I read the new posts in this thread, and I got the Fresh email from flipz about his newest Hero ROM, but reading through just some of that thread it doesn't sound like it is better than Zen, so I have no plans to flash that ROM for now. Having the 170 degree screen is a cute little addition that flipz has added but that doesn't have enough "draw factor" to get me away from Zen.
Also, reception really sucked while at the lake. That is the only problem I have had with this ROM, the reception. That is with trying all the different radios for the Sprint Hero and updating my PRL.

I read your earlier posts and understand what you are saying. I came from Fresh Toast 2.1 and had tried the other Fresh Roms from flipz. Matter of fact, I donated to him early on, so I get the beta and final versions before he releases them to the public. So I know his high level of quality and attention flipz pays to detail. There may be no one better at doing the whole enchilada like flipz.i am going to sound like a troll..but yes, it may not look like a 'mytouch' but everything works. and you can overclock it!! if you like tmobile ROM then yah...you're not gonna like this. but if you like things to work, then you will. i still don't understand the draw to a ROM that isn't fully functional.
i am open to someone explaining why a ROM that doesn't work is "AWESOME" and 'SO RAD!" please go into detail and explain.
and yes...i've ran ZENEXP![]()

Having said that, this Zen ROM has still been faster and quicker that anything flipz has ever done. It has been stable for me and the only problem I have had is with reception at times. For some reason that is weaker for me with this ROM (Zen) than any of the Fresh ROMs I used. Now, the Gmail push may be working for me while it doesn't work for some others. Having read on xda I gathered that is the case. But the Gmail and tied in Google Voice account I set up for my Hero are not my primary accounts, so I don't care about any Gmail push issue. But I have had Gmail push emails the few times I have been emailed a receipt from Google checkout from purchasing apps. Other than that, my primary email is linked to a domain name I own for business and used with Google Apps, so Gmail has to be set up for that domain and used through the HTC email app or some other app anyway.
You asked for detail, lol. That is why I really think Zen is awesome and even though it is incomplete with the Gmail push, it seems to work for me but isn't a factor either way. The reception issue I wasn't really surprised by at the lake. I had some 3G problems so Google Voice was spotty for my calls, since that is what I use for my primary phone number, texting, and VM. Npt that I was interested in making lots of calls while on an extended holiday trip to the lake, lol. Really is nice when a three day weekend pops up like that so I can tack on a few extra days.
That battery life is awesome with Zen, huh? I have been using it for a few weeks now so I tend to take it for granted. ADW Launcher is fantastic! My fav so far.Yeah, I didn't make the jump to Fresh Hero 2.3.3 either.
Right now Zen is just awesome as an everyday ROM for me. It gives me the most free internal memory (125mb on a clean install), is ridiculously fast, calling time is the fastest I've seen on any ROM, and my battery life has never been better (getting over a day of charge with 2 accounts being pushed and heavy use texting and e-mailing).
Today, for example, I've had my phone off the charger for 15 hours and am at 53% remaining. I've made 5 calls (under 4 minutes each), send and received about 20 texts, sent 2 e-mails, used the Facebook app many times, used my Opera Mini Browser about a dozen times throughout the day browsing the web, listened to some music during my lunch break (about 15 minutes). I didn't do anything special with my ROM, just using SetCPU and set it to 691/245 on-demand when screen is on and 480/245 when screen is off.
I've tried the last couple versions of Fresh Hero and Fresh Toast and they were not as fast or responsive for me as Zen. It's a shame because I really like Flipz's ROMS and have used his since I first rooted my Hero and I am a donor.
I also like the interface, coupled with ADW Launcher.
I may try Fresh 2.3.3 if the Exchange boot loop problem is 100% fixed. If I do make the jump, however, I'll likely have to go to A2SD, as 85 MB internal memory is just not enough for me right now.
Sorry for the detail, lol, but you asked for it. Flipz can create a mean ROM, but for me, even as a donator to flipz, Zen just has what I find to be important and what I like. If you haven't given Zen a good tryout for a couple of days, I would recommend it. Just make sure you do a nandroid backup before you flash any different ROM so you can easily restore your previous system and apps if you want to.well that is quite an answer...and so is the one above. i may revisit ZEN. but i will probably wait a bit. thanks for going into such depth. i think the problem and answer is, any ROM is only as awesome as the person expects a ROM to do. so for me, while i expect everything to work immaculately - others are willing to sacrifice certain 'features' for other areas of strength. ZEN has my interest (again) merely based off the speed and battery i continue to read about. but i'd really like to see those stats back to back with Flipz newest Fresh OC'd.
is there anyone out there would wants to run a 710 OC'd version of the newest FRESH while capturing 5 days of battery life by the hour AND benchmarks VERSES ZENEXP?
Where does this rumor come from? Any update?Rumor has it that "they" are working on a new version of the Zen rom with Gmail push fixed. Could be available soon....
Trying. I can get it working bit I breaks other mods etc that we have already done.Where does this rumor come from? Any update?

I have tried about 15 different ways now. I still have a few more to try that I thought of.
It takes time sorry guys.
If I don't get gmail push working soon then I will push out the camera fix over the updater.
I have a few more things I want to try and cram in the new version.
Stay tuned.

).I too ordered a 16GB card because I was running out of space on my 8GB from a lot of music and some photos and videos. I ordered mine from Amazon for fast delivery and it arrived yesterday.Anyone setup A2SD after flashing this ROM? Just got my Class 6 in, and ready to go A2SD. Zen says on his site that it's Auto on, so do I just partition the new card, then load it and then move apps over?
So, I'm taking the dive anyway...
Backup SD card, make nandroid, save nandroid on my PC, power down phone and swap SD cards.
Now, using this page: [APP] Darktremor A2SD (Apps2SD) version 2.7 Update 3r1 (2010-06-26) - xda-developers
I'm following the I have NOT setup A2SD method. Apparently the 1.6.2 RA image has a built in utility to perform the SD partition. Very easy to follow. Will report back on the actual A2SD function in a bit.
Well, works just fine. Running now. Did get a touch input FC when I first rebooted after flashing the Darktremor A2SD zip file, however that's all stabilized now and working just fine. Also, performed the output for A2SD to check, and all is good there as well.
At this point... time to Nand +ext
1.6.2, and no, I haven't tried putting the 8GB card back in or starting with no SD card.Which RA are you using? Mine did not take very long on the reboot. No longer than it takes when freshly flashing a ROM.
Another question, if you put the 8 GB back in, does it do the same? What does it do with no SD card in?
That's what I thought, but after reading what 00h2itr posted and what was said in the xda forum that I needed to for some reason. My SD card is already partitioned now, so I should be able to pull off that A2SD zip file I tried using, leave everything else as it is, then restore with my nandroid. I have a feeling this will work great, and I'll report back in a bit. There was no need to flash the other file from my understanding. Apply your nandroid and don't flash the file this time.
Partition the SD card and reinstall apps and be done with it. A2SD was already set up to work in Zen if you have/had a partitioned card.
Odd....I used USB toggle from the RA to remove the A2SD zip file, then did the nandroid restore and booted after the restore was done. Same thing as before, it gets to "HTC Simply Brilliant" and freezes up. This is with my new 16GB SD card in. This one is class 4, because the reviews on Amazon for this card said it was at near class 6 speeds but at a good savings. Plus other reviewers with Android phones (at least one with a Sprint Hero) loved it, said it was faster than needed, etc. Those reviewers mentioned using apps from the SD. Just threw that out there, as the difference between the class 6 on my old 8GB card and the class 4 on this new 16GB card can't be the issue with this problem.Curious how that works out. I know I did flash the file and ran though all of the described steps as posted.
Thanks. This cannot be said enough about the dangers of moving the dalvik cache, imo. I have never moved mine and won't just to save the internal space from still going down in very small, incremental amounts as more apps are added to run from the SD card.a word of warning... if you boot without the card in place, you risk crashing to the point of needing to RUU the phone. This is the biggest concern if you move the Davlik to the SD as well as apps. if you just move apps, then you should be able to power off and insert the card and boot the phone. the reason it can crash/semi-brick the phone is because it create a lot of sym links to the apps that suddenly are no longer there causing FC after FC. if Davlik is moved the you FC the OS if it can't be found. Please make sure that you change that ext2 partition to ext3 in order to have journaling activated. no journaling with ext2 you run the risk of the sym links getting corrupted keeping the phone from booting.
also keep in mind that you will be increasing the read and writes to the SD card with apps2sd.. this means the card will fail sooner than if it was used normally. While that may not happen for 2 years, it could happen in 2 months.. that's the risk we take with electronics

Sounds good, I'll do this tonight when I have more time to do a cold install of Zen - again.from what I have seen (I don't use app2sd myself just an observation of those that went through hell getting it to run), to get it to work properly, you need to have the SD card partitioned and THEN flash the ROM. You might want to try placing the 16gb card in, boot to recovery, wipe data/davlik/ext then flash your ROM and see if that works. if the phone boots, then use TB to restore apps and reboot again.
Flipz mentions in the comments of his app2sd FAQ page that the partition should be done first, then flashing the ROM. Looks like that is what I will need to try next. No biggie, just the way it goes sometimes when you have a rooted phone.
