OK...back up and running with my 16GB SD card in now! I set some time aside to do a fresh Titanium Backup, SMS backup, and then rebooted into RA. Did a wipe/factory reset, wiped dalvik, then wiped SD ext just for sh!ts and giggles. Went back in and partitioned the SD card - again - with swap @ 32 mbs, 1GB storage, and Fat 32 for the rest. Then upgraded ext 2 to ext 3. Finally toggled the USB and copied the ZenEXP zip file onto the SD card.

Pucker time.

Flashed Zen and rebooted. Tik Tok......back up! Thanks to the Titanium Backup gods because all I had to do was install the actual TB program from Market again and tap once for TB to reinstall all of my apps and data. (I have the donate version of TB) Some minor touches to restore a few widgets and I am now back up with a HUGE amount of room on my SD card free to start adding more and more from my music library on my computer.

All in all it took a few extra steps to redo the Zen from a cold flash, but things warmed up after I started the restore with TB. Thanks for the help and advice guys. Sometimes I kinda already know what to do or what it is going to take to get to where I want to be, but I want to run things past you guys first to make sure.
 
Ive tried flashig Zen several times. I really like it but I keep running into a weird problem. After flashing, it works great for about 15 minutes. After that Sense goes into a loop of FCs. I reboot and it starts FCing right away. The only solution I could find was using LauncherPro. However, I realy like some of the Sense widgets and would like to use them. What could be causing this loop of FCs with Sense. Ive reflashed 4 times and it happens every time. I noticed an earlier post where someone had the same problem after restoring apps with Titanium. Ive been doing that as well, is it possible that Titanium isnt playing well? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what caused it, but I could never get sense to run after my initial boot up. It would always fc on me. And now that you say it, it proably was ti backup, because the last backup I had made was with fresh 2.1.2, and running launcherpro. It probably got all messed when I did the backup from lp, then tried to restore the lp setup to a sense setup.
 
I've been running Zen for a week or so and have been liking it. Unfortunately, now my Gmail won't receive emails when they are actually sent. I'll get notice of them hours later sometimes. I can manually hit the refresh button and get new ones to show up, but that is a huge hassle. There is no setting to change this.

A post online said Google Voice may be causing it, but I uninstalled that and that hasn't helped.

Anyone else having this trouble with Zen?

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with this and a few other current roms. You can set up the regular HTC email app to receive your Gmail at 5 min intervals.
 
I liked this rom a lot, only thing that I didn't like was a few small pieces of Tmobile left. (pink contacts and "faves") but I might not have had the latest version? I'm debating on going back from FRESH, we'll see.
 
ok. just flashed to zen. very glad i did. lots of customization, i love it. i cant get those boxes around my shortcut widgets to go away tho. i want the basic ones without that lame ass box. i followed the directions earlier in this thread but my widgets still wont work >.<

EDIT: Ok so i got it working but only with the marine task bar. i wish i could get all the widgets to normal. for all the themes. can anyone help?

I have been playing with this ROM for a while, (thanks for recommending it, Kelmar!) and it is realy very smooth and fast. I just found a fix for the one issue I had with it. I didn't like the way the icons/shortcuts had a box around them, iPhone style. Thanks to .mak at xda, here is the fix for that:

Download RemoveIconBG_Hero_mak_UNZIPMEFIRST.zip
Extract the contents to your desktop (you'll find update_signed.zip in the folder you extract)
Place update_signed.zip on your sdcard
Reboot into Recovery
Make a nandroid backup
Flash update_signed.zip
Reboot and enjoy!

EDIT: One GREAT feature available for the ROM is a fix for the double menu press waking up and/or unlocking the phone. NO MORE pocket dials! Also, I have no issues with BT or email with this ROM. It has an easy updater that helps with updates, themes, and extras!

Nope, that's the easiest way.

We can get you walked through it though, it's really not as bad as it sounds.

everytime i change the theme my widgets have that little box around it. is there a totally new widget pack i can use or something?
 
I never changed themes when on Zen.

Have you gotten this to work at all or are you needing help from the starting point?
 
i got zen flashed and running. i flashed the update.zip to the rom (flashed all the zen stuff at once) and the widgets were how i wanted them. i found this theme page Here and its got all sorts of different colors of lock bars and launchers etc. and when install and change the theme my widgets go back to the enclosed style ones. i thought it was the update.zip that got rid of those

it's a 2.1 ROM and yes you can flash to it.. you just need to wipe data and davlik before flashing..

Ok. This seems like the snappiest rom with best battery life. I'm going to try it now that I saw on XDA that zenulator is about to release (later this week?) an update which will fix gmail push.

Hope you didn't do what I did, I had a back up with astro the superuser app and installed it, zen has its own and when I did that I had the same issues as you. I ran a nandroid restore and that fixed it.

so I can just download the zip and flash it like I did with my fresh rom? I thought I had to update to 2.1 then re-root in order to use a 2.1 rom?

Sorry for the noobish question but I'm still new to all this stuff, although I haven't even had my Hero a week and it's rooted and running fresh
 
so far i am loving this rom way more than fresh 2.3.3. i havent been running any oc widgets, task killers or battery savers(juice defender) and my battery life has increased dramatically even with semi heavy use. the only problem that im having is themes...i cant seem to get any to show up under themes in MyModes. does anyone know what i can do to get themes to work other than flashing them through a zip in recovery?
