Chances are it's imposed by Sprint. They track the meid of each phone and limit by carrier. It's the same reason that freedompop has a limited byod list.

Well my search for the awe begins I afraid to get one amazon probably send me a emblem with the same troubles

The phones are locked to either vm or vmc based on meid... They are in fact the same device just network locked
