Root ZTE U960 ROM Discussion

I am new with android phones. Just get ZTE U960 from taobao with chines firmware. How can I re-install it to English firmware? Current version is ZTE-T U960V1.0.2B03.

Al the firmwares are (at least) chinese + english.

Btw, yes you can install a newer/older/different firmware.

Hi guys.
I was wondring if anyone of you knows a way to add new search machines to the hardware search button!?
I only have baidu and some other chinese provider.
That makes the search key kind of useless for me.
I would like to add google....

OK, but which firmware I need to install to be compatible with google apps and skype, and how can I do that? Which software do I need to use and how? Is there any document that explain all steps?
Thanks

There is still no method for update to 02B06 from recovery?
Because i have win7 64bit.
And tried to connect phone to the virtual machine (xp 32bit) with virtualbox, and vmware...
I have done all instruction of The Solutor, and also tried w/o battery.
And i see that virtualbox connect to guest os (winxp) the usb device like ZTE incorporated HUSB or something like that.

And only red icon in the left, no green one :(

I managed to update to 2b06 by using the xpmode virtual machine under Windows 7. During the update process the phone disconnect and you need to reconnect it from the virtual pc gui

You cannot add new search engine to the stock browser without recompile it. Here you can find browser.apk repackaged with Google search engine Deposit Files

BTW, I did nothing other than installing the 02B06 and my package (followed by a wipe), and my u960 has google as predefined search engine.

Yes correct. For the serch widged accessible by using the physical search button nothing special should be done.
My repackaging was done only for adding google as a search engine of the standard browser.

thx for providing the file!
but unfortunately it says "appliction not installed" when I try to install it....

If I remember well in order to substitute the stock browser I've followed this steps:
1) Unistall the stock browser using titanium backup
2) Install the the new brower with adb push Browser.apk /system/app/Browser.apl
3) Reboot the phone with adb reboot

I dont' know if is it possible to directly replace Browser.apk without using adb

I'm talking about the search button AND the browser.

Just flashed 02B06, then my root+market package, then the cattys kernel, then I did a wipe.

That's all, the only remaining Chinese things are the favorites that can be easily deleted.

Hello everybody!

I'm interested to buy ZTE U960 and I have some unknown details of this phone:

- is there any update/upgrade that make USSD functionally on both sims?
- is there any update/upgrade that can resolve the problem of duplicating numbers for contacts to be shown their names, not their numbers, when I receive sms/calls?
-when I receive a call, the phone shows me on which sim I am called?
- is there any setting that some contacts can be called on SIM1 and some contacts on SIM2 by default? For example, when I call my father the phone automatically use SIM1 without asking me which sim to use, and when I call my mother the phone automatically use SIM2?
- when I use internet connection on SIM2 and somebody calls me on SIM1 I loose connection to internet? But in case I am called on SIM2 while I use connection to internet on the same SIM?
- the same question if I use hotspot to a laptop? I loose internet connection?
- how long it can be used with single one battery? Light/moderate/heavy use...

Thanks a lot!

1. Yes, in last FW upgrade (2B06) USSD on SIM1 had fixed.
2. I don't use sms. sorry, maybe who knows.
3. Yes, of course shows.
4. I don't know about that feature, there's simply two call buttons in the dialer...
5. Yes you can, SIMs are fully indepedent here.
6. You can use one sim during internet session on other one even in hotspot mode.
7. It's so individual... But I think that U960 have good battery life. Two days of light use in my case...

is there a .zip file already to easily apply the update?
or do I have to install the rom and everything else (like v6 supercharger and kernel-flash) new?
and what means ussd? (what works that didn't work before)

2. I don't use sms. sorry, maybe who knows.
I don't have this problem with 2B06 and also with catty's 1.5.1. All my contacts are stored only with international prefix in my addressbook and I can see the name both during call both with sms
4. I don't know about that feature, there's simply two call buttons in the dialer...
I confirm, unfortunally there is no such feature in the u960 and it would be very usefull.. I made a lot of mistake calling with the wrong sim.

I recharge the phone every night because I use a lot 3g data access
