Not if you like being able to use your phone. This forum is filled with posts and threads about how trying to install an ota update on a rooted phone can cause a brick and also talking about the fact that the updates just block root and make your phone perform less efficiently. If you really want to install the update you have to install the stock unrooted ROM and stock recovery and once you update you won't be able to get root back.

Yeah I tried doing it without thinking and luckfully nothing happened. I also have a gs4 and I read you can only root if you have kitkat then upgrade to lp and keep root so I thought it would be the same here..

Hi there, I have a meteo pcs 4.4.4 zmax with a unique bootloop problem. It has only stock recovery, stock os was flashed over butteenoob v2 with the butteenoob kernal, accidentally flashed the wrong lte radio update zip on accident from xda, it was for a nexus 4. That's when it began to bootloop, past the startup screens the main lockscreen shows up for like 3 seconds then restarts itself. So i flashed stock rom thinking it would fix, now i have no twrp just regular recovery, i will be at a computer tomarrow so if adb can get me out of this i would appreciate it soooo much, I've been tearing my hair out for months trying to handle this myself, so no twrp, and I just know that the wrong lte radio I flashed is the culprit, I can post link if nessesary to the radio. Please friends help me.

You are in the wrong forum and will not be getting spoon-fed here.

FOR ROOTED ZTE ZMAX ONLY

Install the apk file
Open the apk file
Click "Install Recovery (this flashes TWRP to your recovery partition, and this only needs to be done once)
Click Reboot recovery
Use TWRP to do many things

Download v2.8.6
updated to 2.8.6 and some nice new mount options

I'm not so savvy on rooting but I have done it in the past, my daughter owns this phone but it keeps rebooting randomly about every 10 minutes, is annoying and am wondering if rooting it will help with the issue, any help will help, thanks. Also can someone direct me to the rooting process page please ??

IMO, if your on stock and get random reboots, I would think a factory reset would be in order. If there is still a problem then it may be hardware.

As far as rooting goes, once it's stable then root for titanium backup.

Just my 2¢.

BTW, check your firmware version. Rooting may not be an option.

A sincere thank you from me to hroark13 for this work. After reading the first few pages of the forum I installed it. No hiccups till my phone would not awaken from sleep. Happened several times. Luckily, the zmax is restartable simply by holding the power button til it vibrates and our friendly little green droid appears. I determined it was GravityBox. Undid all tweaks. Wakes up just fine now. Thank you again hroark13. You are a man I look up to.

I've successfully temp rooted using Kingroot, but when I try to install TWRP via the APK, I get a "Failure" message along the lines of:

Error running exec(). Command; [su, -c, ./data/data/com.eclipse.android.razr.bootstrap/files/surunner.sh] Working Directory: null Environment: null

I've tried rebooting (and re-rooting using Kingroot), no dice. I've uninstalled the TWRP installer, re-downloaded it, re-installed it, no dice. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Thoughts?

EDIT: Never mind. Apparently the solution is to just keep trying. I eventually got it to install (no idea what I did differently, if anything), and even got the "success" notification. Rebooting into recovery took me to stock, not TWRP, so I rebooted and tried it again. It worked after that.

Hello can you help me. I installed TWRP on my non rooted ZTE Zmax but I want to go back to stock recovery to be able to install the OTA updates. Would you be able to help me?

I can't, sorry. I'm not very familiar with this phone, just found it used cheap and picked it up as an alarm clock and backup.

So after rooting with Kingroot, I Installed TWRP then went to flash TWRP and I got this error message;

FAILURE
Error running exec(). Command: [su,-c,./data/data/com.eclipse.android.razr.bootstrap/files/surunner.sh]
Working directory: null environment: null
What exactly does this mean, and what steps do i need to take to fix this, so I can flash and use TWRP correctly. Please and thank you in advance
