Would it be possible to create a dual boot environment for the GrandX Max+ similar to the one that Masterchief87 created for the ZMax? I've used KingRoot and hroark13's TWRP recovery on the ZMax and have root working just fine, but have the same problem with the system partition being ro.

I found out about this by accident - someone apparently created a YouTube video using an older version of the TWRP recovery installer apk (you had to allow the screen to dim until it went solid black before the screen would work in TWRP - installing 2.8.6 solved that problem).

Thanks!

seems the GrandX Max+ people just use my files, and give no credit, I am not gonna help them, sorry

Okay, complete noob here. I have full root for a week now and have been playing around with Xposed, and realized that I had not installed TWRP and do not have a back-up of the stock rom. Is there anyone that has a stock rom for a T-Mobile Zmax. I have searched forums for it with no joy. Any assistance is appreciated.

I'm sorry to see that some people are being jerks, but I really appreciate that I was able to find the work that you have done and certainly have given you credit as you can see above. That recovery didn't just fall off a truck and I very much appreciate that I now have root thanks to you!

Any ideas on how I can gain rw access to the system partition?

was not talking about you, just some you tube videos I saw

I was able to temp root my ZTE Lever (Straight Talk phone which is very similar to ZTE ZMax) using Kingroot. But when I tried to install TWRP to enable perm root, I was never able to boot into recovery--only into stock recovery. I clicked on 'Install Recovery', then clicked on 'Reboot Recovery' but it only rebooted into stock recovery every time.
Am I doing something wrong or is the TWRP ONLY for ZTE ZMax and not ZTE Lever? If not, I'd be happy to make a donation to have TWRP Recovery that worked with ZTE Lever.
Please let me know, thank you.

this TWRP is only for ZTE ZMAX, but it is possible that it would work on similar phones, like the GrandX

I honestly think the problem you are having is that all your partitions are write protected, including the recovery partition, and that you will never have full root or a custom recovery

I have seen other phones like this, the ZTE Zinger, ZTE Whirl 2 etc. etc.

If you truly got temp root and installed the Zmax TWRP, and it really got flashed, it should of either booted to TWRP or like a black screen or something if the TWRP was unable to boot, since it went to stock recovery, does not sound like it was flashed, or maybe you just did not really have temp root

Well, I definitely did have temp root. I got the 'Root Successful' message in Kingroot, and tested the Root access feature in ES Explorer. It was definitely rooted, but I think that TWRP does not get flashed when I install. It says 'Successful!' when I click install recovery but then when I click Reboot Recovery it just goes into stock recovery. So it's probably like you said, the partitions are write protected so I can't get custom recovery. Thanks for your reply.

Then zte has most likely write protected all your partitions on the phone you have. If this is the case you won't ever get permanent root unless someone manages to unlock your bootloader.

Just a quick question, has anyone figured out where the boot logo is located....i would like to change it now. I have a custom boot animation and hve deleted all mpcs junk , i have mobile hotspot now .after removing mpcs hotspot deleted all online crapware basically all i have is a barebones stock /customised phone just the way i want it .....almost ..just got to change the all elusive boot logo( you know, the one that says android)... Then the shut down image...thanks to all who put in their hard work and time on getting this bad boy rooted

You just need to flash a new one
Please explain to me how this is done and ill be glad to do it and show results after....what has me really surprised is the fact that after removing metro pcs hotspot i was immediately able to hotspot to my tablet and pc and my old phone at 50Gbs amazing ......metro pcs, YOUR FIRED!

Oh I'm sorry I didn't understand. You mean the zte logo? Im not sure but I'd like to do this too
The zte logo only shows on shut down the startup logo is "POWERED BY ANDROID", but yes, id like to change both of them. Sooo if anyone knows where they are hiding feel free to let me know. I think i know where shutdown logo is. Start up splash is as with all phones quite elusive.

Before i do that one last question, in the file for shutdownanimation.zip i believe it is a .png file if im not mistaken. I made a zip with the file page and png image i wanted but i accidentally dwleted my original shutdown image and i need to put it back. Possibly you can sent that to me first?

what I meant was, give me the U.S. Army image that you want for the splash screen

so this file you gave is what you want for shut down animation ?
if you can make them stacked as 1 image ON BLACK BACKGROUND that would be great "U.S. ARMY" on top of course. Thank you

I think there are to many colors in those images to use

I made a splash image from your first image and a shutdown animation

I had to convert the image to grey scale for it to work

here is the zip you can flash in twrp

also your zip did not have the needed part0 folder

I already put a some time into this for you, would rather you learned how to do this on your own, so if you study this zip I am giving you, then you can figure it out

also, if you need to restore the splash image to sell the phone or something, there is this file
