zv6 ota released!

I got a notification this morning telling me zv6 was available. I installed it, and battery life seems awesome! The ota was 70 something megabytes. Seems pretty good so far. And there i was downloading the source and whatnot! Lol!

So far, thats the only thing i notice thats different. Besides battery life. I know im leaving something out, because the ota notification said there were bug fixes and enhancements. So, there must be other things, i just do not know what they are yet. I will have to do some more poking around. (root seems to be removed).

Looks like the usual data wasting, root killing downloads that are common for updates on virgin phones. With the one exception being the stagefright fix. As for battery life, mine is pretty good now.

I bet when they release the next update, its going to be lollipop. Who knows when that will happen though. Its a nice thought anyway.

Wont happen. Virgin mobile added the very weak LG Tribute 2 to the lineup. A device that for all intense purposes is the very device we already own now minus an 8 gig rom...still same ram. Surely not worth having. But it has the current android thus I cant see our tribute getting it. Virgin for whatever reason has taken a big step backward in its plan offerings and device offerings.

I'm still hopeful. I've heard they're pretty much on the fence about rolling out lollipop for our phone. If it's going to happen it'll be this fall/winter or, not at all. On the plus side though, most places that carry our phone did jack the price back up, it may be an indication that they'll update us.

I flashed the update on my wifes "Data Done Right", lost root, got root, and now working okay. Tried using Xposed and a number of modules (the same ones I use on my VM Tribute) and caused a bootloop. I couldn't use the Xposed disabler, for some reason stock recovery replaced TWRP, so I factory reset (still had root). Reflashed recovery through Flashify. Tried Xposed and modules again. This time bad, bad system freezes. Lags like crazy, plus 10 min to boot up. So no Xposed for now until I can do some more testing on individual modules to see which one(s) is/are the culprit (when she stops playing Hay Day).

As far as the update itself I didnt notice any performance enhancements at all. Not battery either. Think I'll hold off on updating my VM Tribute for awhile.

Also on a side note, after the update on the wifes "Wally World" phone. Virgin Mobile sent an "official software update" which caused the phone to bootloop back to recovery. Anybody running into that problem, check out my thread for that at the link below. The commands work perfectly, phone booted right up.

Does the root method I posted a while ago still work after upgrading to ZV6?

I too have the update pending (pending that I delete apps for the storage to download) and is it confirmed that this does in fact remove root? Cuz if so, then I'd rather not update yet unless I can just reroot.

Ok, got around to trying to update. I've tried all the methods. Still have TWRP installed. Must I unroot to update using stock recovery with fastboot, then reroot and replace with TWRP?

NVM... figured it out.

Yup! Hash_Brown's right...everything is fixable!
Flashed original, unmodded zv5 rom..then stock recovery. After loading the zv6 update, lost root, rerooted & flashed TWRP. Got GAPPS bootlooping and I gave up on zv6. Wiped & reflashed Deodexed zv5 V2 rom. Everything quit FCing after that. Back to normal now! Still holding hope for a zv6 deodex rom....or maybe CM12!

Will anyone be able to snag the zip of this so it can be installed manually? It's been offered on my phone, like, three times... but when I click "OK" to install it reboots, shows the "System Update" page for a suspiciously short time (like, 45 seconds or so), then reboots back to the home screen with no indication of success or failure.

My Tribute is running the stock OS, but is rooted and has a bunch of apps linked to an ext partition on the SD card via Link2SD. Could this be a problem?

@tunaman2
If you have TWRP and the update from here or the one that got downloaded on your device, just flash it in recovery.

I seriously suggest to manually edit your build.prop with the stagefright fix, flash the Adreno mod, and add whatever other mods you have. The constant updating of Virgin software is ridiculous. The addition of apps you deleted, the same ones you got rid of when debloating your ROM. Hell NO!! The only thing I is see is the "radio.img" @ ~60 mb, haven't figured if its a good thing yet. Also the update breaks the "Tether Fix". It bootloops everytime the Virgin software updates.
Just pull the build.prop from the update and compare it to yours. Not much difference. Just search for "stagefright" in your build.prop, then duplicate the entries into yours, save it, then reboot.
BUT if you do flash the update, make a nandroid in TWRP of the "system" so if you don't like it you can restore it back.

But always make a backup in TWRP before flashing anything.

So the update downloaded, but I don't want to update as of right now. I would like to delete the update, but can't find it. Any one know where it downloads to?

I would just like to see some Vanilla AOSP or other custom ROM, something without any of LG intrusion. They almost have it locked down like HTC Sense.

Does the radio.img break the tether, or the entire system patch? Wondering if I should do the radio.img install or not, since I'd rather not de-bloat my phone again. Thanks!

What is the best way to view the contents of the build.prop.p file? Just converting the x.prop.p to a x.prop file hasn't seemed to work for me. Opening it up, it just shows a few lines in hex. I've looked all over for a solution and I have yet to find one that'll work. I appreciate any info!

It very easy to edit the build prop. JRummy has a build prop editor app on Google Play. Worked for me!

Just remember to do a nandroid backup BEFORE you do edits! Just in case you mistyped or incorrectly entered something!!
