Hi,

Another new watch face for collection, just released: Sonar Watch Face

Cool animation, with a lot of free features (datas to display, vibration on new hour, colors & information format, etc...)

You can extend the experience by unlocking the premium access, and fully benefit from the watch face (complications, secondary timezone, interactivity, custom shortcuts, etc...)

Weird change in my Galaxy S9 lock screen behavior

This bizarre: Today my S9 began not consistently asking me to enter my PIN to unlock the screen. I went through my lock screen settings and changed it to ask me to enter my PIN just five minutes after the screen shuts down, but...

It seems like the phone can be in my pocket for way longer than that, yet the phone still doesn't ask for my PIN.

Note I am not using any settings that would prevent the phone from locking when it senses it's near my body or close to a trusted device in my home.

Is there an app or a system app whose cache I need to delete?

Or some other setting I should be looking at?

Thank you!

Can't get Opera as default browser

Today, on my Samsung Z Fold 5, I can't get email links to open up with Opera, even though when I go go settings (phone settings/apps), all browsers say that Opera is the default browser. This seems to have happened after I added some accounts to Aqua Mail. For now, I got links to stop opening with Chrome by disabling Chrome, but I do not think this is the proper or desired way. Chrome was not disabled on my Z Fold 4 and links opened there Correctly. Possibly dome changes got made in Aqua Mail or in my Google account during the email account additions. Any ideas here??

Would you buy a refurbished S21 FE?

I bought a "renewed" one off Amazon for a dear friend when her phone died, and the first one they sent seemed to have a battery that was nearing the end of its life, so we exchanged it, and the replacement is working just fine.

I know the S21 FE is kinda old, but it's just such a darned good deal on Amazon right now; they're about $200 to $225 dollars for "renewed" ones.

Heck, a brand new, unopened one is under $380.

I'm seriously tempted to get one for myself, 'cause the app I use for my Dexcom G7 CGM will soon lose support for any Android version older than Android 12.

Regarding that Dexcom app, it requires me to give it permission to circumvent battery saving settings so it can constantly monitor my blood glucose in real time. So maybe I should spring for a brand new phone, and not a refurb, in order to maximize battery life?

I dunno. What's your opinion of the S21 FE? Would you buy one in 2024? That $200 to $225 price is pretty hard to resist.

Z Fold 4 failure

This morning when I started to use my Z Fold 4, it failed. I am using it right now, but in cripple mode. When I unfolded the phone (while the cover screen was active), the phone inner screen started to display, but the display and phone shut off. It took a while, but I eventually figured I could start and run the phone as long as I kept it folded. If you unfolded it, the screen flashed on, then off and the phone died. Buttons on the right side of the phone (when the phone is open) do not function. It appears that connectivity on the phone is an issue when the hinge is in certain positions. I am charging up a new Z Fold 5 right now.

Locked vs unlocked phones

I have a Samsung S10 that's been acting weird lately. One day it spontaneously rebooted without me physically touching it. Another time the phone awoke from sleep without me physically touching it. The phone, not me has deleted pictures. An app on the phone downloaded an app without my permission. Fortunately, I was able to uninstall the app.

I can't decide between getting a locked phone or an unlocked phone.

I have some questions.

I know that unlocked phones come without a SIM card because the phones can be used on any carrier. I'm on Verizon & I wish to stick with Verizon. So, the unlocked phone has to be activated by Verizon. After the unlocked phone is activated by Verizon, will it have Verizon WiFi or is that a separate process? I know that Google Fi is an option for the Pixel phones. I assume that it's an option for any Android phone, correct?

If I buy an unlocked phone activated by Verizon, will I be able to get it serviced at Verizon or will I need to get it serviced elsewhere because it isn't a Verizon-branded phone?

Of course, I can buy a Verizon-branded phone & I won't have any problems getting it serviced.

Still searching for the perfect gallery app.

#Piktures did move all my audio files and other photos to one big giant file. No go.

Google Gallery Go app, needs write permission to move any object to an album cover no go.

Other "Gallery apps" keep on either re-arranging everything and I am just tired of searching for a perfect one, that atones and stays in each album organizaiton without having one giant one that really messes up and want to put it in windows file explorer and click on them within a heartbeat. Any sugestions?

Help Easiest backup for thousands of calls

Hi I'm not very good on my phone and I need to back up some files, including 8000 or so recorded calls, which I must not lose. It's a Huawei 20x 5G. It is absolutely stuffed full of really important stuff including the phone calls which I cannot lose, but if I try to back up to Google Drive it will only let me back up 40 or so at a time and it takes hours upon hours. I have in the past managed to put things onto a USB pendrive but the USB port is dodgy and it doesn't always transfer over. If the port breaks then I can't do anything at all obviously as I can't charge it. what is going to be the easiest quickest way for me to get copies of all this stuff? I'm terrified of doing something wrong trying to sort it ! Sorry to sound so totally daft.

Samsung Voice typing doesn't recognize the period all of a sudden?

My Samsung S22 Ultra has all of a sudden stopped recognizing the period (.) in voice typing. It used to be that you can just say "period" and it would put the period punctuation mark in there. Now it just types out the whole word "period" instead. Other punctuations are unaffected, such as comma, exclamation point, or question mark, even colon (:) is still working! But the most common one, period, is not working? Just started happening a couple of days ago. Anyone else notice that? I use the voice typing quite a bit here.

I've also tried switching the keyboard, from Google Gboard to Samsung keyboard but no difference.

Cataract Surgery

I was advised about a year ago that I had a cataract that should be removed. At the time it seemed that waiting until the mowing season was over would give me plenty of time to have the surgery and recover without interrupting my daily tasks. I had a heart attack last fall that put everything on hold. I don't know if the cataract seems worse because I'm in the sun so much or if it is aggressively growing but for whatever reason, the vision in the cataract eye has substantially deteriorated to the point that I need to do something about it. I have all kinds of questions that I hope someone here can answer.
Anyone here been though cataract surgery? Were you happy with the results? How much down time? Did you start with your optometrist or start by shopping your local options for the surgery? Did you have any financial help.. Medicare? Supplement? ... and on and on. I thank you in advance.

Google Messages

Google has added so much crap to where you type a message on Google Messages it's hard to type or read a message you are typing due to a lack of space. This is really stupid. The space between smile face and the picture icon is all the space you get for your typing message. A long word or a couple of words and it scrolls down

Memorial Weekend 2024

Next weekend is the holiday that most everyone considers the kick start for the summer. When I was growing up, we spent ever Memorial weekend in Oklahoma where both of my parents were born and raised. We decorated graves in the many surrounding cemeteries and enjoyed seeing all of the family that lived in the area. Nobody lives there anymore and it's been a number of years since I last decorated graves there. I will spend the weekend decorating local and will likely party at the cabin with friends.

I hope that you have plans to spend some quality time with friends and family. If you travel, please be safe. It's a great weekend to do some grilling outside so I hope you have some great meals planned.

Though we enjoy the time off and early summer fun with friends and family, it's best that we don't forget the reason we observe the "holiday". It is a day to morn and honor the loss of those that gave their lives so that we might enjoy the freedoms of this great nation. Showing respect for veterans should be 24/7/365. Please take the time to thank all veterans for their service.

Notification Settings

Hi

I am having trouble with getting a message notification sound on my Samsung S23 Ultra.

The weirdest thing is that when I choose a notification sound in Settings/Sounds and Vibrations/Notification Sounds is that I cant hear the sound I choose in there when I select it ? However In the ringtone setting I can here the sound when selected ?

Yes I have checked DND, turned the volume up in notification settings, and in the volume settings.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide :]

Whatsapp woes

My wife recently had to send her Samsung A41 in for repair (don't ask!!) so she reverted back to her earlier J5. This all worked, no problem, but after putting the SIM back into the repaired A41 she's hit a problem with Whatsapp verification. It keeps reporting that it isn't able to send the SMS verification code, even though it's showing the correct phone number. It says to wait for 59 minutes but this just keeps repeating ad infinitum. This procedure worked when she first went back to the J5 but now doesn't. The SMS is working okay, we've exchanged messages.

In desperation we've tried uninstalling Whatsapp and downloading and installing a new copy from Play Store. This accepted the telephone number but then came up with the same error. To make matters worse there is now no Whatsapp icon on the desktop. It is installed since it appears in the list of Apps in Settings and there's a button to open it from there but when she does this it still comes up with the same error. In the verification box the buttons for resending the code and requesting a phone contact from Whatsapp are greyed out.

From searches she's done online it appears that this is a fairly common problem but so far we've not found any ways to resolve it. If anyone here has experienenced this problem and found a solution we'd be very grateful to know about it.

non carrier apps..

Currently I just reseted my cell a great old fashion FDR a spell ago, now my bar graph on the non carrier data, has been shot over 100%

meanwhile my data, regular old data - of the wifi and mobile data- the graph drops down to nothing from the highest peak in the start up of May.

I know it is a bit confusing. Here are my screen shots I am talking about, all my mobile data on each app is switched off. How to make this drop down to Zero or at least half?
