NFL Draft 2024

There's a lot of talk about the NFL Draft on April 25, 2024 in Chicago since the Bears have the first pick and their QB Justin Fields in on the trading block.

There's a lot of talk about J.J. McCarthy (Michigan Wolverines QB) moving up into the top 7-10 QBs available. He's a Junior, not a Senior at Michigan. He's a local kid from Illinois. I watched him a couple of times this year, including the Champion game. He's okay, but he's not great. I wasn't impressed with him at all in the Championship game. His stats look good. I think he should play his Senior year at Michigan.

Just my 2 cents since there is so much draft talk here.

Windows 11

It's been at least 15 years since I used Windows. What I've been doing is going to NewEgg and buying a refurbished laptop with no OS or needing Window licensing for a few hundred dollars. Then loading Linux on it.

My last laptop has lasted about 3 years, but the keyboard started going bad. I was going to replace it with a Pixel tablet, but found a new discounted Asus laptop at the same price with Windows 11 so I bought it.

I'm really starting to hate Windows 11. It wants me to buy, buy, buy. Buy more drive space, buy Microsoft games, Your McAfee protection expires in 30 days, buy an extension now. This never happens with Linux. I tried using the Edge browser. It's difficult to change which search engine to use, it's basically hidden and you have to watch a YouTube video to see how to change it.

I'm going to see how long I can last using Windows before I dual boot Linux or just wipe Windows out.

After using Linux for so long, Windows sucks 👎

Samsung Secure Folder alternative

Hope this is easy. I'm currently using Secure Folder to store app. I suspect all know the apps aren't really secure. I can swipe up on my phone to see apps, type "simplisafe" or "MyQ' in the search bar, and access the app. Yes, the person holding my phone has to know I'm using Simplisafe, but my point is, Secure Folder isn't actually secure.
Is there a n alternative to Secure Folder that actually secures my apps?

Browsers Open App Instead of URL

Hi,

Samsung Galaxy 9+
Android 10
Model SM-G965U1

In Firefox, Chrome, Brave I try to go to fastmail.fm but it always goes to (I use the code open couldn't find a text option...so you can see the text of the URL)
PHP:
https://app.fastmail.com/?domain=fastmail.fm
.

Redirects to the app every time. I had the fastmail app on my phone and uninstalled it, no change, all browsers still take me to what appears to be the app.

Not that it's a bad app...it's OK. But sometimes I want to use the website through a browser interface. Is there a way to not use the app? To not have this redirect or whatever it is? Thanks.

S23 FE 3X telephoto lens output quality?

This phone uses 8 MP, 1/4.4", 1.0µm, telephoto lens which is the weakest point in its camera system. 8MP means that both 12MP photos & 4k videos at are upscaled in daytime.
At night 3X zoomed videos are simply a crop from the main sensor.

What do you think of the output quality of 3x videos from this phone (day and night)? Does it capture enough details for you liking? Is the dynamic range good enough etc?

Searching for places in the Phone App

Up until recently (perhaps when I got the new SIM card), I could be in the Phone App, search for a restaurant, and it would find it, without it being a contact. However, I notice that isn't working anymore. I type in the name of the restaurant, and nothing. Is there a setting somewhere I need to turn on so searching for places in my Phone App actually looks for their phone numbers? Instead of having to search in Google or Maps and hitting call?

How can I disable sound notifications for apps only, but keep my ringtone sound enabled, for when someone calls

I want to be notified in the event I get a facebook messenger post, but silently (with a number at the top of the icon). Right now, I get a sound notification too, which I don't want.

I went into the Settings/Notifications/Notification sound menu, and saw the option for Sound, Vibrate, and Mute. Selecting Mute will not only turn off sound for my app notifications, but for my cell phone ringtone as well.

Is there a way to turn off the sound notification for apps, but keep the number appearing on the icon for the app? Or will I have to turn off all notifications for the Messenger app?

I don't see my signature below here; in my profile it is there:

Baseball 2024

Spring training starts next week. I see there is a game between the Dodgers and the Padres the 22nd. I'm ready for some baseball. I love MLB and look forward to it every year. I'll be rooting for the Royals again this year... that's a given. They open training with a game against the Rangers the 23rd. I pick the Dodgers to be in the World Series. It's a long season and money doesn't always buy the best team production but it is damn difficult to keep out of the series. It will be interesting to see who they will face this year.

Steelers Predicted to Land Justin Fields in Trade

We had Fields for 3 years and sat in the cellar of the NFC North for 3 years. I never saw Fields show any enthusiasm when he was playing for the Bears.

It's nothing personal against Fields. I have no doubt if the Bears hang on to Fields we'll end up in the NFC North cellar again for a 4th year.

I don't know a lot about the Steelers, but I saw how unhappy Trubisky was the last time he played. I can't see Pickett and Fields getting along.

Device Protection

I recently had an interesting experience. I was selling an ASUS tablet running version 7 on ebay. I noted that I had "factory reset" the device. A potential buyer asked me if I had removed my Google Account before resetting the tablet. They claimed that Google accounts had a "device protection" feature that would prevent anyone else from using this tablet. Does ANY of this make any sense to anyone out there? Can an installed Google account survive a factory reset? I don't see how this would be possible.
