The only way I have found is to use a firewall to completely block internet access to the Play Store.
Do they have payment plans @mikedt? A truly unlocked phone without a carrier backing it requires all the money upfront in the US. I'm talking buying the phone from the OEM or an authorized retailer.

had the same issueMy phone has recently undergone the latest software update 1-3 weeks ago. I noticed now after update my screenshot images are clear in my gallery, but compressed & terribly blurry when sent in text messages. Keep in mind, it did not have this issue before update. Anyone seen this or have a solution?

Basically, the Android platform is pretty messed up as far as security updates overall. But for your own peace of mind, just apply some common sense whenever you're using your phone phone to do anything involving online interactions and don't focus too much on the security patch issue.
