Help Hacking (gasp) APK

There are tools for this, but I only want to update a VERY old APK that originally came from Google Play and now seems to be pretty much abandonware.

Works fine on my old phone (Android 7) , but does nothing on Android 11.

I have several tools to help with this, but have no idea how to use them.

Maybe something as simple as changing the SDK version?? Need advice.

Boowho

Lately...

Well I tink I found what was the criminal and making my cell over heat, was Ccleaner, I just install it an evening ago, but turns out it was causing my cell to do all kinds of over heating by the microphone part, I also think that live wall papers does it from time to time, and alas I will have to wait for a spell or three to get a new pixel.. Or the Samsung cell I was reading about too, so my hear is not totally sunk into what cell I should do though.

Bottom Speakers on Google Pixel 6 Stop Working Sometimes

I have a strange problem on a Google Pixel 6. There are two large loud stereo speakers on the bottom of the phone, and a less loud single speaker on top. It used to be that all notifications and the alarm application used all of those speakers. In the last month or so, some applications have stopped using the louder stereo speakers and only use the top speaker in isolation. Unfortunately, my morning wakeup alarm is one of those applications, and the top speaker alone is not enough to get me to wake up. What system setting might have changed, maybe during an upgrade, that would stop the stereo speakers from getting used in all contexts?

ChatGPT anyone try it?

My son was telling me about ChatGPT. I checked it out briefly tonight. Here is what Google has on it:
ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022. It is built on top of OpenAI's GPT-3 family of large language models and has been fine-tuned using both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques. Wikipedia
Initial release date: November 30, 2022
I interacted via text not having a mic on my PC. I understand the verbal interaction is interesting. I was curious if anyone has given it a try and their impression.

The Continued Downfall of American Healthcare

Is it just me, or has the American Healthcare system become even more greedy, for-profit, than before?

I ask this because, I had to make a decision in late December, whether or not to go to the ER, or wait for a GP/FP to see me due to abdominal pain that worsened shortly before Christmas. Being so close to the new year, with fresh deductibles, copays, and out of pocket maxes come 1/1/23, having barely used any of those for 2022, I chose to wait until 2023 to begin my expedition to find the source of said pain.

It is a sad, sad state when an individual has to make this choice, as either their health takes a backburner to cost due to poor timing of their illness/expenses or they have to accept that they essentially could pay 2x as much because of calendar year and carryover.

Ridiculous.

The US is the only country out of countless others that doesn't have some sort of UHC or single payer system. The high deductibles/out of pocket maxes are literally killing people, either financially or actuality.

Thoughts?

Legacy Update, is now a thing

First heard about it, with this video on Michael MJD's channel talking about it, here...

What's this for? Well, the author of the program/site combination found that many of the files needed to fully update OS's that were since legacy'd out of support are still hosted on Microsoft's servers; though the common denominator is that the update service and the encryption algorithm from those old operating systems is what's no longer supported. Prudent, but still sucks if you have a computer/VM/et al, that cannot just upgrade to a newer, supported environment. Or, like me, you have project builds specifically to run certain Operating Systems. :p

While I've personally only tested with a pair of machines for Windows XP, the program claims to support Windows 2000, XP, up to 8.1, and the server counterparts. The site will even load directly on a build of Internet Explorer for the old OS (provided you can get online), and the executable appears to simply re-tunnel the updates through their proxy so you can download and update your OS as it was during its actively supported lifetime. Product updates, (dot)net, directx... I can only speak personally from a Windows xp environment, but it was all accounted for. Which is good, because some unofficial service packs unfortunately seem to like breaking stuff when used or integrated ( Looking squarely at the RyanVM USP4 o_O ).

Personally, the only thing that could have made this better for me, is if it was also able to somehow replicate the old WSUSOffline package that would download the updates from their servers and package them in a way to be able to deploy or even make an ISO with a deployable mode where it would automatically update the install offline. Annoyingly, even the LTS build of WSUSOffline now won't go back that far. :(

$100 New Thread Contest!!!

The one thing AF could really use is some great new content! It is fantastic that we have long time members active in decades-old mega threads and staff still chiming in to every support request imaginable, but we are missing the unique, engaging, NEW topics that were once our hallmark.

In an effort to jumpstart quality content, I'm going to give a $100 Amazon Gift Card to the AF member who creates the thread with the MOST views from now until the end of February. The contest will run through the first week of March to allow threads posted at the end of February a fair share to collect views.

ALL threads from ANYWHERE in the forum are eligible. News, Reviews, Help, Accessories... heck, even the Apple Forum is fair game!

This should add a little fun to the forum while we work on ramping up the new software. Good luck and have fun!

ChatGPT and Android

-- Essentially, two things to take into consideration:
1) Open AI, ChatGPT's developer and maintainer, has not released an Android app so all the current ChatGPT apps in the Play Store are not actual, valid apps. Be wary of whichever one you do currently have and be sure to restrict the app's Permissions.
2) Register for a ChatGPT account (still free at this time), and its intended web interface in a web browser app.

Help Google Home Hub always says 'Something went wrong'

I am having problems with my Google Home Hub. It almost always says 'Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds'. How to fix this? I get this when I say 'Hello Google'

secondary problem: I have had the Hub for some years. I am not sure if it is a Home Hub or a Nest Hub (a newer generation). The device itself does not have an 'About' tab. How to figure out which device it actually is? My phone has a google 'Home' app, but I changed phones since setting up the Hub so I am not sure if that is the correct app.

Disabling Time Adjustments

Folks

Not sure if anyone can help of if indeed there is even any way to do this, but here goes. We use around 50 Android Phones, mainly Samsungs in my work. These are used in particular to allow staff to book on and off jobs via a bespoke (to our industry) app that we use. Unfortunately the app does not prevent people altering times by manually changing time on the phone. Is there anyway or any app that we could use to disable the ability to change the time on the phone to prevent people changing it.

Thanks in advance.

New Forum: Mega Threads

You'll probably notice we moved the "AF Community" section to the top of the site after it was recommended by @AugieTN

In that same spirit, I've just created a new "Search Forum" at the top called "Mega Threads":
You can find it in the AF Community section. This forum dynamically lists ALL threads on the site with 1,000+ replies. I thought this was would be a great way to showcase a "Hall of Fame" of sorts. The big, fun topics that seem to continue for infinity.

Let's keep it going!

Rooting my OnePlus

I have had my oneplus rooted previously by someone else. I accidentally updated my OnePlus Nord ce 2 lite 5g to android 13 without installing magisk to the inactive slot first so when my phone rebooted I had lost root although my bootloader was still unlocked. I've done some research on how to reroot it on my own but for the life of me can't figure out how to get the boot img file for my phone.
Could someone please help me out if they know something about this?

Move AF Community To The Top Of The Forum

Just a thought. A lot of forums have something similar to AF Community at the top of the forum. People will first see announcements, Introductions and Suggestions & Feedback. Which I think is a good thing.

I'm the last person to write in Introductions in December, If you take a look, there are large time gaps between introductions.
