New Device In Collection: TCL A3

My workmate needed a cheap phone, so off to Wal-Mart we went.

Long story short, after I helped him set up some things on it I decided to get one for myself- just for gaming.

The specs are a bit better than what I have had before, with 3GB RAM and 32 GB internal.
An SD card slot allows upto 512GB cards for more storage.

I wound up getting the rubber surround case and the glass screen protector, as this thing is going to work with me.

It was only going to be for games, as that extra 1GB of RAM makes my games load quicker, but my Moto e6 has been a bit glitchy for a while and the edges of the screen are too touchy (they are curved).

So now the TCL A3 is my normal online device as well as for games.

I really have not messed with the cameras, so no real info there.

But, what I have found are these following things which seem to be in common with my workmate's identical device.

The screen is difficult to use near the edges- it is hard to respond.
This is basically a non-issue most of the time, until you need to type while in portrait mode.

The bottom of the keyboard is annoyingly too close to the buttons on the navigation bar, and you will hit them accidently- repeatedly.
Thank God that FlorisBoard allows adjustment in this area, so that problem can be almost eliminated.
Unfortunately, there seems to be not enough adjustment in the other areas to make this thing easier to type near the edges.

It does load up things quickly, and will restart in less than one minute.

The battery is replaceable, and battery life is very, very good.
This is some what subjective, as my device is only used on wi-fi.
My workmate uses his over cellular and on wi-fi, and also reports good battery life.

The screen is rather dark, even when the brightness is all the way up.
This may be partially the cause of the great battery life.
Even so, indoors I can play most games with the brightness set at a lower than maximum setting.
At maximum, the battery life is notably shorter, but still generally better than my other devices.

All around, this is an excellent device for the money, about $40 USD for the device and about $13 each for the above mentioned accessories.

My workmate did not get the screen protector, and cracked the heck out of the screen when he crashed his bicycle last week (the phone was in his hand, and he landed on it).
Although the screen is shattered, the device still functions.

So far, this seems to be not a bad device for the money.

Seeing CPU usage in Android 9 without rooting?

Both CPU-Z and Simple System Monitor will not show CPU usage on Android 9 and claim it has to be rooted. But I have managed to grant some access to Simple System Monitor as instructed to do so by using the commands:

.\adb shell pm grant com.dp.sysmonitor.app android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS
.\adb shell pm grant com.dp.sysmonitor.app android.permission.DUMP

Can't I do something similar for CPU usage? I really can't be bothered rooting my Samsung Galaxy A10 just for this, since it seems a hellishly complicated procedure. Surely just to see how busy the CPU is shouldn't need root? I just want something like Windows Task Manager, to show the overall CPU usage.

Wifi on Motorola Zmax 10

I have a Motorola Zmax 10 Model Z6250CC Andriod 10 and was hoping someone could help me figure out if it is Wifi 802.11ac compatible. I have looked on the phone, looked in the on-line manual, chatted with customer service, and googled it with no luck finding the answer. I would appreciate any guidance that someone could give me. Have a good day.

moto G power blurry pics

Camera takes blurry pics. Especially when enlarged. Contrast is also lacking. My old ZTE Z719DL took much better pics. I thought with time Id adapt and get better taking pics with the moto G, but it's not happening. I have decades of camera experience with 35mm cameras. Why are the pics blurry. Also the contrast is less.

Maybe there is something that Im doing wrong. I did notice if I make a concerted effort to hold it extra steady with two hands and brace my arms against a solid object, the pics are less blurry, but they are still a little blurry and once enlarged even 3 or 4x they are awful. Blurry with flash too.

There are other issues too, so maybe entire phones needs a reset...but I just bought it two months ago.

ideas?

thanks,
paul

Full "system" partition LineageOS for microG

Hello everybody. I installed LineageOS 19.1 for microG on my Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite and so far everything is ok. The problems began to appear when I attempted to install Android Auto using the NikGapps package (which I compiled by entering only Android Auto as mentioned in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/microg-android-auto-fully-working.4319159): the package installation fails as it detects the "system" partition is full and after some checks I found that there are only a few MBs free (while for the installation of Android Auto I would need something like 40 MBs). In the aforementioned post this problem is mentioned but the only solution proposed is to manually compile the ROM from source in order to reserve less space for the installation of microG, but I haven't found any guide to do such a thing. The last thing I tried to do was to replicate the instructions in this other article (https://androidhiro.com/source/ques...-system-partition-and-decrease-data-partition) where they discuss about resizing the "system" partition, but as I have seen the partitioning scheme is definetely different from the Nexus 5's (the device mentioned in this other thread). Any tips or workarounds at this point would be really appreciated :)

The Accessories Thread

Because the charger changed, none of the 3rd party 3-in-1 charging stations are compatible with the Watch 5 Pro. One manufacturer is working on a compatible model, but it won't be available until probably October or November. In the meantime, charging my watch is proving quite awkward (especially with that "oh so generous" 30-inch cable). I ordered this to at least give the watch a place to rest while charging:

elago GWT2 Stand Compatible with Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Charger Stand (40, 44mm) / Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Charger Stand (45mm) 2022 - [Black] [Charging Cable Not Included] https://a.co/d/54OlRdV

LG Phoenix(call services memos)

Since ATT shut down 4G and reneged on sending out the new MicroCells, have to use wireless calling..

(I have a letter stating they will provide the new ones for free after signing up on a web site. The link did not work, even after calling ATT and their agent couldn't get it to work. They then claim they ran out, but I could still buy one for 200+)

During the day, the phones keeps beeping with notifications for "call services".

How do I stop these annoying notifications?

Help Bluetooth keyboard doesn't always connect

Since I have had the Tab2, periodically the bluetooth keyboard just doesn't seem to connect, forcing me to use the onscreen keyboard, which I hate. There are two keys at the top right that have the bluetooth symbol on them. If I hold one of them down for a few seconds, the keyboard light will come on, but it flashes blue/green/red over and over, so there's no connection. At some point, it just magically connects properly and goes blithely on. I'm not sure which is more frustrating: when it doesn't work, or when it starts working and I have no idea what made it do so.

Any and all advice on how to "wake up" the keyboard and make it work when I want it to will be gratefully received! Thanks!!

Android 13 -- Media Player

So, updated my Pixel 6 to Android 13 last night. At the dl screen, it highlights some of the new features. One of the new features is an "updated media player with album artwork and a fun playback bar." What media player are they talking about? The only one that I see that is native is Google Play Music, which has been shelved, right?

Thanks in advance.

Phone lockdown software

Good day guys,

I was wondering if anyone will able to assist.

I am looking for a app that is cross platform compatible, meaning Andriod, huwawei and apple compatible to lock down phone apps. Also lock down what sites can be accessed. Also be able to still use mirror cast or some cast app.

I know google family works on Andriod and apple but not on huwawei. The other apps I have tried like Hexnode and MDM the casting is only supported for 30 min and then breaks and you have to reboot the phone to get it working again, that wont work as the phones will be sitting in a shop very far away.

Any assistance in the matter will be a great help.

Paste/Paste as Plain Text

I turned off Autofill in Samsung Pass on the new Z Fold 4. It was irritating. Every other time I touched a text box, I would get a little text bubble that would mention something about Autofill. Once I did turn it off, the "Autofill" annoyance was gone. After doing that, instead of the Autofill bubble, I instead started to get a similar text bubble for "Paste/Paste as Plain Text", every other time I would touch a text box. My Note 8 never did that. Is this a new feature of Android, or is the setting/source found in one of the accounts such as Samsung Pass?

Thanks for any help,

Danny
