*** Official Motorola Droid X Pre-Release Thread***

From the official press release:

"In addition, current Verizon Wireless customers who have contracts ending by December 31, 2010, can upgrade to any smartphone, including DROID X, without penalty."

Does look like its contract, not upgrade date, but theres no reason they wouldnt spot ya the extra 2 days..

PS. Anyone catch the above blurb about "ANY SMARTPHONE"?? Wonder how long thats good for??

I think that's been going since before the Inc came out. I called Verizon about something back in April/May and before we hung up they said they are running an early upgrade promotion, without me even asking about it.

PS. Called my local Verizon dealer and they can't take pre-orders but they are keeping a list of people to call when they come in.

So I got my Dinc on the 16th and I just got an email about the X being out on the 15th well I might just have to return this phone and get the new one...

My DI is supposed to be here next wednesday (30th) I've tried to cancel the order, but they are insisting its undoable.

For those of you who have the DI... is it worth the $35 (restocking fee) to play around with it while I am waiting for the X to come out? Or should I just refuse shipment and deal with my BB for just a LITTLE WHILE LONGER.

Would using a DI for a few weeks help my android learning curve??? If you buy apps on one phone (DI), can you transfer them to the X.

Where is the best place to go to learn about android stuff? I have been searching on this forum... we need a Android 101 section with tutorials or something. Is there such a place?

If you have the money, it'll help you when you get the X to know how to use it.

I believe if you log in with the same google account, you can redownload any of the apps you had on the previous device.

You'll learn as you go with android, quite quickly. You'll ask for help when you encounter them. Until then, how will you know what you need help with?

I can see a reseller taking preorders prematurely. I don't think it's BS at all.

Pretty much what my local Verizon Store did. I walked in today and asked about preorders, availability, how much stock they would have, etc. There were 3 sales reps and the manager in the store and not one had heard a single thing about the X. The guy did a search in their system and pulled up the info. I live in a small market (pop about 10k) so they only expect to get 7 to 10 of them. I was the 1st to ask about it so he wrote my name on a list and said when they come in he will call me. I'll have 24 hours to pick up the phone or it goes back up for grabs.

I just spoke to my wife (who is an LNP coordinator for Verizon) and according to her, the VZWeb homepage says they will not be taking preorders for this phone.

Thats what this VZW rep sort of did for me yesterday. He's just going to put one on the side for me and hold it :D

3 more long weeks :(

believe me I wouldn't post something like that as a joke. She may be mistaken, but she's wouldn't tell me that just to be a douche.

damnnn...
why can't HTC and motorola make babies and have a droid with sense?

Half of the Thursday night games and EVERY Sunday night game live, all season long :D

I maybe wrong but the last time I checked sunday night games are on NBC not NFL Network.

They are on NBC, but they will be broadcast live through the app- just double-checked for ya. Live audio of EVERY game too..

so If i Pre-order Droid X verzion via phone call do I have to pay 50 dollars down or pay 199 ?

$199 minus any New Every Two discount

The special sale has been running for a while now but this is completely different.

Completely doable- if it hasn't been shipped, they can cancel it, or you can bring it in on the 15th to exchange. No re-stock fee if you don't activate it.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least

Does this mean we don't get morning/afternoon games?

Right. Audio only.

*UPDATE* It appears this store was a reseller, so these codes may not translate to other stores.

BTW, the key things on the receipt are:

Product Code
PREORDMOTOX

Product Description
Pre Order Motorola Droid X

Plan: LEVELONE
Provider:VERIZONWIRE
Activation Type:UPGRADE

I am using my new every two for it, but they said they'd reserve it for anyone that walks in regardless of their current carrier.

Man you're lucky. Are they a corporate store?

So resellers apparently are doing preorders with 2 examples so far. Corporate still gets pissed every time I call. They know my voice by now.
