No, they aren't. They were given out to keep like the Evo was at the Google conference.

I saw a unboxing video by a reviewer and the first thing in the box was instructions for returning the phone to Verizon.
What are the chances a dev Droid X has different firmware, or doesn't have the final build quality since it's not the "production" units? Personally I'd be too worried and would rather buy from Verizon.
Maybe you can pm the guy in the video.

thats why i paid with my cc, if it does not work out when trying to activate on my account monday i will just dispute the charge, no worries. great if it works, little downer if it does not. i just wont ship my Dinc that already sold on ebay until i find out on monday
not really, i just sent a message asking if he knew anything about it being a loaner, not really expecting an accurate answer though. I will call to replace my Dinc on monday and see what the rep says.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, I don't think people reviewing the phones would sell a phone they have to return. If you do indeed actually get the phone then I think you will have no problems.

There's also a seller (who claims to be an authorized reseller for Verizon) taking pre-orders for $250 (if you are new customer or eligible for upgrade). I would not take him up on the offer though because you can pre-order at Best Buy and only pay $199 if you are eligible.
$150 actually with the gift card you get for preordering.
Well, nothing to worry about any more. Got the DX in my hands, activated and with a little card that states, "Motorola would like to extend a spacial thank you for attending our event. You are one of the first to own a DROID X by Motorola. We hole you enjoy your gift." so needless to say this is not a loaner phone. I will play with it today and put up some real world thoughts as the day goes on. I dont write reviews but will test. I have recently had the N1, 3GS, and DI so got a pretty fair group to compare against.
