"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

I also live pretty far from any major city, 4 hours from D.C. and 5 hours from Raleigh, NC. There's no way I'd let a silly promotion effect my plan on what carrier to go with. I base my cell phone carrier decision on coverage in my area.

I'll be happy as long as someone on this forum finds one! At least Verizon/Motorola are giving something free out at all. You think Steve Jobs and crApple/At&t would do that? Don't bet on it.

Back on topic, I wonder what tomorrow's tweets will bring...

This is how I see it's going to happen -

- @Droidlanding will keep releasing completely useless clues that only let on to what state each numbered Droid resides. Or even more useless tweets that reference the fact that there were phones hidden somewhere...

- Sometime during this week, @Droidlanding will somehow release GPS coordinates/direct location names to the exact spot where these phones will be. This isn't a grand production ARG. This is going to be real simple. Cut and dry. It will be in a store where you can walk up and ask for it. It will NOT be in a van or laying outside in a ditch next to the town bum.

You can keep trying to look deeper into the meanings of each tweet and rearrange letters if you want (at least, it's fun to read people doing it), but believe me - this is going to be completely straight forward when the time comes for them to be "released." I've been through enough ARG's (one where I worked with the company that implemented an ARG), so I know exactly how they think.

I'd really like for them to throw a curve ball and prove me COMPLETELY wrong, but at this point and time, I'm going to wait patiently until they release the coordinates or some sort of easy puzzle that leads to the exact building where they are located, and I will drive there to try and pick it up.

About the "locations argument" :

ARG marketing:

Besides being a game, this is ALSO a ploy to sell the phone and inspire "word of mouth." In trying to appeal to the masses, it makes sense that they drop off the phones in well-known, large cities where Verizon would want the most hype about it, right? That's what's going on here.

I'm just wondering how people are ascertaining that they are not in certain areas (large areas, mind you) when we're still not sure exactly what we're looking for?!

Man, I hate Cleveland, I'll be pissed if it's found there. Does kinda make sense though, if you zoom in on the R&R HOF it looks like a giant eye in front of it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but along with the R&R HOF I found- Hanging Rock is a village in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. I would bet more on the HOF but this just another idea.

Someone call the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and ask about it! Then let us know if they call you crazy or not lol.

While the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame does seem like a likely place, keep in mind that it could be somewhere else in Cleveland as well. Drew Carey coined the phrase "Cleveland Rocks" in that sitcom that he used to have...

On another note... I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY PUT THIS THING IN CLEVELAND!! WTH?! Cleveland definitely doesn't rock!! /rant

:)

Call them up Gamble, here's the number:

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
1 Key Plz , Cleveland, OH
Phone - (216) 781-7625

I just called them. I told the guy that answered about the scavenger hunt, and he laughed a little. He said he hasn't seen anything out of the ordinary, or any Verizon or Motorola people or things anywhere. He told me to try the Hard Rock.

He could be covering it, but the guy sounded genuinely clueless.
